Is it still true that the Wild Card team doesn’t have to play the top team in the division series if they’re in the same division? Or could the Cubs/Pirates play the Cards in that series?

aisle424: The Cardinals will be the weakest NL team in the playoffs. They are soft and not that good.

And Wainwright hasn’t pitched since April, won’t be anywhere near game shape, and Holliday, in addition to being as old as balls, also can’t stay on the field.

If they’re hoping for those two to be difference makers, man, they might as well start wishing on a Chris Carpenter comeback as well.

I agree with that. They have four above average starting pitchers, which is of course a good thing, but if the Cubs so meet them in the NLDS, the Cubs are going to have a clear advantage in a couple of games.

But as much fun as it to dream of the next round, it would be nice if the Cubs could grab home field away from the Pirates.

Still think the Rizzo send was a bad call. Heyward in shallow-medium depth with time to get under it and get momentum into the throw. No outs and Rizzo tagging. If it was a different player, I might feel differently. But the fact he was out by 10 feet is an indicator that it was a bad send.

I may have found a solution for registered users to edit their comments. Non-registered are out of luck, and I’m at the end of the line as far as how much time I’m willing to spend on this, but I may have figured it out.

Could one of the non-admins leave a comment and try to edit it by hitting the edit button? Thanks.

I know I shouldn’t complain since they’re winning and all, but The Cubs seem to have a special gift in squandering those runner on third/no outs opportunities.

They’ve had that gift since at least 1981.

    dmick89,
Re your question on content blockers a few days ago—the one I have tried doesn’t yet have any granularity. Without a whitelist to allow some scripts, certain websites don’t load some content that I expect to be loading, so I have found it tedious to hold the reload button and then click to load it without blockers.

Speaking of content blockers—it is easy to be conflicted:

Yeah. If anyone is unfamiliar with Marco Arment, he made Instapaper and wrote the code for Tumblr. Right now he does an app for podcasts, Overcast.fm, for which he wrote an audio engine that can minimize the pauses in speech and makes faster speeds sound really natural.

Speaking of podcasts—as one of the six listeners of the discredited and borderline unlistenable podcasts bearing this blog’s name, I’d love to hear you guys do it again, masochist as I must be. (Slight investment in a better mic with higher audio quality would be appreciated. I might even be willing to edit them if need be.)

    And circling back to monetizing:

A blue OV shirt for around $25 would be pretty sweet. But maybe y’all should wait until after the Cubs win the World Series against Miami.

Shelby Miller made the All-Star team and is sitting on 16 losses (likely more to come) and hasn’t had a win in over 23 straight starts. Jake Arrieta did NOT make the All-Star team and will win 20 games and possibly win the Cy Young award.

What a weird year it has been.

I do not know the answer to these questions but what is the most losses in a season for an All-Star pitcher? And How often does the Cy Young award winner not get selected to the All-Star team?

Having just seen the second replay review with Bryant/Gennett, I don’t understand how the call wasn’t overturned. To me he looked clearly safe.

It looked possible that Gennett’s hand was pushed off the bag with Bryant’s momentum. I think that’s why it wasn’t overturned. Not sure I agree as I think even if the hand did come off momentarily, I’m not sure the tag was still applied. It really should have been overturned.

Thanks for the info on the content blockers, cerulean. Your comments were briefly tagged as spam due to the links in the comment. They’re approved now.

I was wondering about the podcast too.

    Fixed.

For the record, I am not entirely convinced I am human, considering the actions of other humans.

We’ve actually been emailing to record a new one this weekend. I can hopefully grab a for real mic before then.

I want to hope Baez can be great, but the inability to lay off the offspeed and breaking stuff out of the strikezone makes him pretty volatile.

Yeah, he’s still vulnerable to garbage out of the zone. He’s young so that’s not totally unexpected but he’ll have to shorten up the strike zone. I’m more optimistic than I was a year ago. Still think there’s a good chance he’s traded this offseason.
