Junior Lake was 1-4, and Jae-Hoon Hzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Tennessee Smokies 3 @ Montgomery Biscuits 4 (10 innings)
Alberto Cabrera went 6.1 innings and allowed two runs off of 7 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Zach Rosscup had 2 strikeouts in 0.2 innings. Frank Batista walked the bases loaded in his inning but escaped. Kevin Rhoderick blew a save with a run allowed in the ninth, and then decided he didn't want to pitch anymore and allowed a run without recording an out in the 10th.
Jeimer Candelario was 0-5 with a run scored. Gioskar Amaya was 1-5. Everyone else on the team got on base AT LEAST twice. Reggie Golden was the best of them, with a home run and a walk. Dan Vogelbach didn't have any hits, but he walked twice. Kevin Encarncion had a trio of singles. He also stole a base.
Brian Smith took the start and was really meh. 4.1 innings, 5 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts. Armando Rivero had a really nice relief appearance, 1.2 innings with a hit and 3 strikeouts. Lendy Castillo had 1.2 innings of typical shit performance. He didn't allow a run but did allow a hit and 3 walks. And this is the guy who got the win! Michael Hamann had 1.1 innings with a single walk allowed.
Yasiel Balaguert went deep in this one, a 3-run blast in the 3rd inning. He also had a single. Jordan Hankins had a single and 2 walks. Rony Rodriguez had a double. Jose Dore was a triple and home run short of the cycle.
My main man CMP got the start today and allowed no earned runs. However, he had 2 unearned runs. 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, 3 hits. Jasvir Rakkar allowed 3 runs, with 2 unearned runs, on one HR and 4 hits, with 2 walks. Andrew McKirahan went 2 innings. Scott Frazier went 0.2 scoreless innings, and Matt Iannazzo finished the game with a single out.
Luis Valbuena was just a single, double, triple, and home run short of the cycle. Starlin Castro was 1-5, and Nate Schierholtz was 1-4. Alfonso Soriano continues to surge forward with a pair of doubles. That was awesome to see. Anthony Rizzo was 2-3 with a walk, and in his last 10 he's batting .324.
Edwin Jackson went 6 strong innings and allowed 3 runs. He's 4-10 now with a 5.75 ERA. Shawn "DFA me" Camp put the Mariners right back in it with 3 runs allowed in 1.1 innings, and everyone watching just kind of assumed that when Hector Rondon came in that the Cubs were giving up the game. Instead, Rondon walked a guy and then got 2 outs and out of the inning. Kevin Gregg dominated in the ninth against 3 lefthanders for the save. Gregg is 4th in the league in ERA+ by pitchers with at least 10 saves: Joe Nathan, Mariano Rivera, and Craig Kimbrel are the only 3 better.
Temperature for the game: 108 degrees. Woof.
