Let's move on to what really matters…Cubs "championship" baseball!
Brooks Raley was fucking awesome, scattering 3 hits and no walks over 8 innings. He fanned 6. Brian Schlitter recorded his 18th save with a scoreless ninth. Someone in the comments yesterday suggested he'll get a callup in September; I doubt it because he's not on the 40-man.
Nick Struck did ok after his demotion, allowing an unearned run in 5.2 innings and fanning 3. Hunter Cervenka pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, and Armando Rivero took the loss with one run in 1.1 innings.
Cubs are making a strong push for Rodon. With their loss, they've moved into sole possession of 4th place and are just 5.5 back of 2nd (the Astros, at 41-84, are an insurmountable 13 games up). This team blows and everyone but Donnie Murphy sucked yesterday (Junior Lake also doubled). Chris Rusin went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 10 fucking hits. Afterwards, a parade of shit relievers did their thing.
Tyler Skulina started the game and got shelled. He allowed a quintet of runs and only went 1 deep into the 3rd inning. Rob Zastryzny inherited a runner, didn't let it score, and then allowed one run over his 3.2 frames. Andrew McKirahan allowed a single walk in his 2 scoreless, and Stephen Perakslis allowed a run in his one inning of work.
