JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 8-21-13

Memphis Redbirds 7 @ Iowa Cubs 1

Mike Olt went 0-2 with a walk.

Yoanner Negrin was pretty awesome, allowing 1 run in 5 innings. He walked 1 and allowed 4 hits. Alberto Cabrera did a Lendy Castillo impression, as did Jeffry Antigua. Marcus Hatley went scoreless.

Javier Baez and the Superfriends 10 @ Birmingham Barons 8

Javier Baez is a bad mother fucker. He went 4-4 with 2 HR and a SF and 5 RBI. Jesus Christ he's good this year.

Daytona: .274/.338/.535 (.873 OPS, 17 HR)
Tennessee: .307/.366/.659 (1.025 OPS, 16 HR)

He hits a HR in every 11 at bats in the Southern League. If he had 700 AB in a season, that's 63 HR. Over his last 10, he's hitting .432/.488/.919. His slugging percentage over the last 10 games is higher than the OPS of anyone on the Cubs…except Donnie Murphy, of course.

Arismendy Alcantara doubled, singled, and walked twice. Pretty good, but he's no Javier Baez. 4 other people also doubled; Matt Szczur, Christian Villanueva, Brett Jackson (2-5!), and Rafael Lopez. They're no Javier Baez put together.

Boring pitchers alert! Boring pitchers alert!

Beloit Snappers 8 @ Kane County Cougars 5 (10 innings)

Jeimer Candelario went 2-5, but Marco Hernandez doubled and singled instead of 2 singles and Giuseppe Papaccio tripled and singled. Whoo! He also had 3 RBI. Rock Shoulders had a pair of walks.

James Pugliese allowed 5 in 5 off of 10 hits. He did fan 6. Nathan Dorris pitched 4 scoreless. Awesome! Michael Hamann allowed a 3-run HR to lose the game in extras.

Boise Hawks 5 @ Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 2

Yasiel Balaguert singled twice, as did Danny Lockhart and Lance Rymel. No extra base hits in this one, and only one walk from David Bote

Jose Rosario had the start and went 5 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 2 walks and 5 hits. Jose Arias went 3.2 scoreless innings; he hasn't allowed a run yet at this level. Eddie Orozco struck out the only batter he faced.
