It some ways it is kind of nice having two different ways of figuring it, though, right? Like having two different perspectives on a given player.

Well I think they still use two different ways of calculating (For instance Fangraphs uses FIP I think) but the baseline is now the same, so that’s nice.

Think of it this way: before, it would have been like they had two different SLG, where one person gave HR 5 bases and the other gave it 3.5.
Perhaps one way was better than the other, but at least now they are starting from the same spot. I’m not sure I agree with where they’ve set their replacement level, but at least now it’s consistent.

Yeah, the calculations are different so it’s just nice to be able to compare them in a better way. Instead of the average player being 2 WAR in one system and 1.5 in another, they’re both equal now. Much easier to use the two together.

I often forget to check, but I try to. I think Colin Wyers is one of the best analysts in the game and he’s done a lot of work on their stats so I think they’re pretty good. It would be nice if the 3 could find a common replacement level.

Colin’s the best (I’d rate him higher than Tango), but I’ve always felt there was some weird layer of obfuscation at BP that there is not at other sites. He’s inherited a mess of stuff to try to turn around too, genius of Nate Silver be damned.
I’m kind of surprised some team hasn’t snatched him up like whoever did with Rally.
