I've got no hope to find in Garza getting shelled and the offense doing nothing against a guy with no command of anything but his fastball tonight, so let's go with Harold Reynolds making an idiot of himself.

If Casten Starro and HR sheepishly admitting he confused Almora with Baez doesn't put a smile on your face, well, I can't help ya today.

    Teams have been batting their best batters in the third spot going back more than a century (see Cobb, Ty and Ruth, Babe), so I think it’s odd you ask about it in this specific case.     I don’t know. Good lead off guy gets on, next guy bunts him over, best hitter is walked. vs. good lead off guy gets on, best hitter knocks him in. Best hitter at third only works if hitter at 2 is good, not just there to sac bunt/advance the runner. Plus the 2 hitter gets more ABs than the 3 hitter over the course of the season. I asked in Rizzo’s case because both Castro and Barney have been pretty bad in the 2 hole. Assuming the lead off guy is decent, why have the inning potentially end after him with the inferior hitting of Castro and Barney in at 2? Later inning goes; Out from 8 hitter, Out from pitcher/9 hitter, single, out from 2 hitter.

    As long as your 5 best hitters are batting in the top 5 it doesn’t make much of a difference. The Book had a really good section on optimizing lineups if you’re interested.
