Memphis Redbirds 2 @ Iowa Cubs 4
Iowa scored all 4 of their runs in the bottom of the 8th, so that's really sweet. A pair of RBIs each from Brad Nelson and recent Iowa promotion Anthony Giansanti. Logan Watkins drew a walk, and along with Nelson had the only two walks on the team.
Barret Loux went 5 innings and allowed a single run on just 2 hits, with 3 walks. Over his last 7 appearances, he's allowed 4 ER over 25 innings (3 starts, 4 relief appearances). It appears that Loux is the swingman right now. Esmailin Caridad allowed a run in 2 innings, and Eduardo Sanchez and Brian Schlitter each threw a scoreless frame for the win and save, respectively.
Tennessee Smokies 2 @ Montgomery Biscuits 7
Arismendy Alcantara had a double and a walk. His average and OBP are down lately, but he's more than made up for it with an increased slugging percentage. He'll play in the futures game. Matt Szczur had a double and a single, and that was about the entirety of the Smokies' offense. Montgomery is a good team, and Enny Romero is a good pitcher.
Austin Kirk had an awful game. He allowed 6 runs in 5.2 innings, and threw 101 pitches. P.J. Francescon relieved him and allowed a run of his own; Hunter Cervenka pitched a 1-2-3 8th and ended the Smokies' involvement in this game.
Kane County Cougars 3 @ Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4
Albert Almora had his 11th double of the year, which, holy shit that's a lot of doubles in a short amount of time. He went 2-4. Dan Vogelbach drew a walk and went 0-3. Marco Hernandez had a pair of hits and an RBI in the 5 hole. Oliver Zapata had a triple and 2 RBI.
Jose Rosario drew the start and allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. He only struck out 2, which isn't very good. Justin Amlung took the loss in the 8th with an unearned run (an errant Gioskar Amaya throw).
Boise Hawks 3 @ Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 4
Jacob Hannemann was back in action and went 2-5 with an RBI. He's now just .283 on the young season. Jacob Rogers had a double and 2 RBI. The only other hits were 3 singles, all by Daniel Lockhart. Carlos Penalver picked up his 7th error on the season, a true Baezian pace.
James Pugliese picked up the start and ran with it. He allowed 1 run in 6 innings, with 5 hits and no walks. He did only strike out 1; Ethan Elias (who blew the save and got the win, what a jerk) struck out twice as many in a third as many innings. Matt Iannazzo picked up his 2nd save of the year with a scoreless ninth frame.
VSL Cubs 4 @ VSL Mariners (31-9) 14
Brohiglyn Rivero continues his march to infinity with 3 runs in 1 inning of relief work. That brought his ERA down to 33.75 in 5.1 innings, way lower than fellow bullpen artist Ramon Valera's 42.43.
Rookie Chang-Yong Lim pitched in this game! He allowed a hit in one inning of work. You may not remember Lim, but he's the 37-year old Korean reliever the Cubs signed to a two-year split contract.
