Iowa Cubs 3 @ Salt Lake Bees 9
Mike Olt was 1-4 with a strikeout. Logan Watkins was 1-5. As I said, only 2 people actually play offense on this team. I think starting next Friday, I'm going to take a vacation from Iowa box scores and just write about anything more interesting (which, coincidentally, is anything).
Barret Loux was doing pretty well until the 6th, when the wheels came off. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in a bullpen really soon, where his stuff profiles a hair better. Alberto Cabrera stranded a runner in the 6th, but gave up a pair in the 7th. Marcus Hatley did pretty well in the 8th.
Birmingham Barons 1 @ Tennessee Smokies 2
Javier Baez was 1-4 but didn't strikeout; he also stole a base. His BB% is 8.3 and his K% is 32.4%. People in these comments have said 120 PA is where that stuff becomes meaningful. I'm stricter; give me 200 PA and I'll be happy. He's still been insanely impressive this year, especially after his really poor start to the season. Arismendy Alcantara was 0-4, again. Justin Bour, a sleeper candidate for a AAAA fill-in in a few years, went 1-2 with a HR and 2 BB. Brett Jackson went 1-3.
This is your weekly reminder that it's beyond stupid that Kyle Hendricks is still in AA. What does this man have to do? 6 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 SO. Hunter Cervenka has continued to progress, pitching 3 hitless innings.
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2 @ Kane County Cougars 6
Dan Vogelbach doubled. Gioskar Amaya and Jeimer Candelario each singled, and Albert Almora had 2 singles. Rock Shoulders walked, singled, and doubled.
Tayler Scott didn't walk a batter in 5 innings, and allowed 2 runs. Andrew McKirahan and Armando Rivero each went 2 scoreless, striking out 3 and 4 respectively.
Kris Bryant was 1-3 and also was HBP. He recorded his first error since the 3-error start. Jacob Rogers had a big fly. Yasiel Balaguert had a rough go, with 3 whiffs.
James Pugliese had a rough one, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits, 2 walks in 5 innings. He only fanned 1. Eddie Orozco allowed a run in 2 innings (striking out 4), and Jasvir Rakkar had a scoreless 9th.

I keep wondering what Hendricks has to do, too. I can’t seem to make any sense in him staying at AA at this point. If the logic behind moving Baez to AA was that he needed to be challenged (and maybe it was), isn’t the same true for Hendricks?

@ dmick89:
I think I saw a comment or tweet that the Smokies manager said he is close to being promoted.
Regarding Eloy Jimenez, the scouting reports are very weird to me. Many outlets have him at #1, yet in the scouting report they focus on is what he doesn’t do or what he isn’t. Meanwhile, the #3, #4, and so on all get glowing scouting reports with a small blurb about that player’s deficiency.
You’d think the #1 rated prospect would have great thing after great thing said about him.

Puts the Cubs emphasis on IFAs this season, and the investment in the DR facility in a little perspective. Dominican 15yos are apparently the new inefficiency, and not in a creepy way…
