Iowa Cubs 3 @ New Orleans Zephyrs 4 (16 innings)
Mike Olt was a late sub, going 0-1 with a pair of walks. Brad Nelson had a 2-run HR and Tim Torres had the other RBI.
Kyle Hendricks drew the start and was reasonably effective. He went 7 innings and allowed as many hits, with 3 runs scoring. He was touched for a solo home run in the 6th but fanned 7. Marcos Mateo, Brian Schlitter, Eduardo Sanchez, and Marcus Hatley combined for 8 scoreless relief innings, but Jeffry Antigua could only record a single out in the 16th before losing.
Tennessee Smokies 5 @ Birmingham Barons 2
4 doubles were the XBH: Matt Szczur, Arismendy Alcantara, Rafael Lopez, and Jonathan Mota. Lopez had 4 RBI in the game. Javier Baez had an awful game, going 0-4 with 2 SO. He was ejected in the 9th for arguing balls and strikes.
Eduardo Figueroa pitched a really nice game, going 6 scoreless and scattering 4 hits and a walk. He fanned 5. Tony Zych blew the save with a run allowed in 2 innings, and Frank Batista allowed a run in his inning also.
Brevard County Manatees 3 @ Daytona Cubs 5
This is the type of exciting game that I'm hopeful for someday soon in Chicago. Dan Vogelbach and Kris Bryant went back-to-back in the 7th. Everyone had a hit, and while they only walked once (Kris Bryant), they also only struck out 6 times. Have some power, put the ball in play, and you'll win more than you lose. Zeke DeVoss had a pair of hits including a double, and Dustin Geiger doubled also.
Scott Baker rehabbed and did fairly well. He allowed a solo HR, but then allowed only 2 other hits and neither scored. He didn't strike out anyone. Pierce Johnson came in "relief" and went 4 innings. He allowed a pair but fanned 6. Jeffrey Lorick and Austin Reed both threw scoreless innings.
Clinton LumberKings 4 @ Kane County Cougars 2
Rough day for everyone not named Jose Dore, who went 3-4 with a doubled and 2 RBI. Especially bad was Reggie Golden, who went 1-4 with a trio of strikeouts.
Boring pitchers alert.

Yasiel Balaguert did the Reggie Golden thing in this one. Lance Rymel pinch-hit for Cael Brockmeyer (I have no idea why), and went 2-2 with a double. Carlos Penalver also doubled and walked.
Paul Blackburn got rocked, allowing 3 walks and 7 hits for 4 runs in 3 innings. He got taken deep back-to-back in the third. Loiger Padron went scoreless in the 4th, but Trey Masek was roughed up for 2 in 1.2, and my main man CMP was quite putrid, allowing a quartet or runs in his inning of work. I can only speculate here, but I think he's just not being challenged enough at Boise, which is why he's doing so bad. Perhaps if he gets promoted to a league where his name is on the back of the jersey, Martinez-Pumarino will finally show us what he's capable of (I really just want to see "Martinez-Pumarino" on a jersey.) Eddie Orozco was nails in his 1.1 innings, fanning 3.
Nice comic, Josh.
At least Olt didn’t completely suck. That’s an improvement.

No no no, Robby. Was in the radio booth for years with Matt Hews before finally succoring to his lifelong battle with Miabetes.

Parks has a nice writeup of Baez in today’s Ten Pack if you have a B-Pro sub. Not sure if it’s kosher to post it here or not.

How on earth did David DeJesus clear waivers? I have to believe that he only got past the 7 or so teams that are in front of Washington in the wire. I really liked DeJesus, so this sucks. I don’t get this trade unless the prospect is worthwhile, which it won’t be.
