Brett at Bleacher Nation wrote a long, excellent piece of research on the Cubs business and baseball plans, for now and the future under the Superfriends.
No wonder we're only the 78th best Cubs blog around.

Great read, very in depth stuff. So when are we winning the World Series?
Just one gripe/aside:
While I agree to this to some extent (mainly having to have to flop to get a top draft pick) there are just too many downsides to doing this. The most glaring of which is that you can’t just jump from 85 wins. Who would we have had to sign this past offseason for this to happen in one season?
And also due to the current CBA (can we stop calling it new? It is closer to the end of it’s life of Dec. 1, 2016 than the beginning in 2011) and the rightful refusal to spend on aging players make the lack of signing young potential superstars noted below even more upsetting.

Agreed. You’ve got to get to 85 to 90 by first going through 75 to 77. It doesn’t make sense to sign players to one year deals to get to 72, 73 or 75 wins. However, multi-year contract pay off beyond year one. I think Cubs fans have lost sight of this or pay too little attention to it.
