  2. Reds starter pitching like he doesn’t want to be late for his evening shift at the taxidermy and vape shop.

Taxidermy and vape shop? That’s a strange combination. (dying laughing)

We were up in the WI north woods a few years ago for vacation and were dying laughing at the sheer number of taxidermy places found in every random location. Our holy grail was if we found a taxidermist next to an animal hospital.

  4. dmick89: Dukes of Hazzard was part of the famous Friday night lineup on cbs that started with Dukes and was followed by Dallas and then Falcon Crest.

Easily the best part of growing up in Urbana was that you could get the CBS station out of Terre Haute on a clear night, meaning you could watch Dukes of Hazzard twice in a row due to Indiana’s intransigence regarding Daylight Savings Time. Magic childhood moments, those.

  5. What’s crazy about this season and already at 94 wins is that the Cardinals are at 100 and I don’t think they’re going to be as difficult to beat in a short series as any of the other playoff teams. That’s just weird.

They banked a lot of wins early on, but were decidedly lackluster in September (July as well). With all the injuries and fatigue among the pitching staff, they’re limping into the postseason.

  7. Suburban kid,

Seems crazy that they just need a 3-game sweep against another terrible team to match their 2008 win total. I would have thought that unthinkable as late as July.

  8. Perkins: they’re limping into the postseason

When they limp into the postseason, they do it the right way.

  9. I’d love to see a Houston-Chicago World Series for the sheer improbability of it and not just because I think The Cubs would probably win it.

  10. One wonders how long Joe will leave Arrieta in tonight, and whether the decision (assuming the Cubs are winning) will be influenced by the score in the Pirates/Reds game, which starts an hour earlier.

  11. Suburban kid,

Whether the Pirates are winning or not tonight shouldn’t matter—they need to win two games to ensure home field advantage. So I would think the score of the first game would have no bearing on Maddon wanting to win this one. I expect Arrieta to go seven regardless, save for a no-no or perfect game.

  12. I think Arrieta will probably get right around 100 pitches tonight. I think that’s about what he had in his last start and I’d expect it to be the same tonight regardless of what the Pirates do.

  13. aisle424,

They still do have them dress up like that? I thought I read something a couple years ago about being more sensitive. Personally, I don’t really care. it’s for fun and he looks hilarious. (dying laughing)
