What to Watch For
Shelby Miller was traded for an absolute haul. He gets the start opposite the reigning Cy Young champ. Chip Hale likes putting as many crazy lineups together as Maddon does; both managers are trotting out exotics for this 3:10 clash.
Fowler gets the day off; he needs one, as his bat is likely to burst into flames if he keeps his hot streak going. Bryant bats in the 3 hole today; it was faintly hilarious that Arizona walked Rizzo to get to him yesterday (he drew a walk).
The Cubs are just fucking excellent, man.
Will the Cubs Win?
No (39).
Randy's Record: 4-1

I deleted a comment by RtR to test something out. Formatting is all screwed up in the comments and the sidebar is at the bottom.

It was berselius’s fault for including all those little open brackets (carrots). site read them as html. Way to go!

Arrieta is great at baseball.

I love how Jake worked the count before going deep.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
nah, 1st order is Pythagenpat (run differential)
2nd order uses a run estimator instead of actual run differential (base runs, I would think, since Colin used to run their stats, but I’m not sure. could be something linear-weight based)
3rd order uses the run estimator, but adjusts for strength of schedule

Rizzo the Rat,
Is 407 to cf really that deep?

GW,
Thanks. I was going to summarize it tomorrow when I do a where we stand post so I will just copy what you wrote. (dying laughing)

berselius,
The fence looks like it’s 400 feet high. Seems like it anyway.
dmick89Quote Reply
I’ve never thought of Arizona as a big ballpark (the opposite actually), but it has seemed to play like one this series. Bryant hit a couple I thought were way gone that stayed in.
dmick89Quote Reply
The best one sentence summary of Chase Field is that it has a Panda Express, and said Panda Express had the longest line of anything in the concourses.
berseliusQuote Reply
Bryant needs to stop hitting straight to CF. If he just angled them slightly, he’d have HRs instead of F8s.
Suburban kidQuote Reply
I tuned in just before the Jakebomb. Yer welcum.

Might be tough sledding for the cubs bats today.
MylesQuote Reply
Arrieta sure loves inducing grounders.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Montero needs to pull the ball just a bit more.

About 840 feet of doubles for Montero today.

Forgot we are good even if the opposing pitcher has his stuff.

I always forget that streaks carry over to the next season. Arrieta’s scoreless streak ends at 32.
What was Soler diving at?

Myles,
I’d probably rather have you defensively.

Hale pulls a Maddon by letting his pitcher hit and pulling him shortly after.
PerkinsQuote Reply
I like how Chip Hale gave away an out against a suddenly struggling Jake Arrieta, just so he can keep his laboring SP in to break the tie in the next inning.
Just can’t teach genius.

Which Cubs player was it that trade talks with the Braves kept bringing up Delgado’s name? Didn’t like it at the time and glad it didn’t happen.
