Cubs 5, Reds 3 (4/11/15)

OSSAddison Muscle.

Three up:

  1. Russell brought the house down with a three run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was a no-doubter, and felt especially great given just how stymied the Cubs bats were all game by Reds starter Brandon Finnegan.
  2. The Cubs highest-price acquisition from this offseason also had a good introduction to the Right Side of the Rivalry, driving in two runs in the seventh after the wheels came off of the no-hit bid.
  3. I should put another Cub here (probably Ross for breaking up the no hitter, or Rondon for ????????????), but Finnegan was impressive enough to earn his way here. He had the Cubs off balance all night with a devastating changeup, the big weakness of many players in this lineup. I am certainly not complaining about him hitting a wall in the seventh though.

Three down:

  1. Lester did not look super sharp today, but he kept the Cubs in it. He was pretty clearly gassed in the sixth, I think Joe might have left him in too long to ensure he picked up a nominal QS.
  2. Oddly enough the Cubs had the bottom four WPA plays in this game, and the big "winner" was Bryant grounding out to end the Cubs mini-rally in the seventh. It sure must have been nice to not look over and see Aroldis Chapman in the opposing bullpen after squandering the opportunity to take the lead.
  3. I'm too lazy to check the pfx data, but it felt like Tony Cingrani threw a dozen pitches that didn't even travel 55 feet. Even Soler was waiting him out.

Next game: Wednesday, 7:05 PM CT. Lackey v Simon

That Russell guy seems good. Someone should write an article about how he might end up being the best of all the young Cubs players.

Apparently Rich Hill has decided to be awesome, pretty much by throwing curveballs and sliders 56% of the time. The Cubs really need to do a better job of hanging on to young talent.

I feel like I’m still riding the adrenaline from that ending. Which is good, as I got about 4 hours of sleep last night (dying laughing)

Yeah, the missed out on the prime Rich Hill years.

Oh well. Our loss is Baltimore, Boston, St. Louis, Boston again, Cleveland, Boston again, New York, Los Angeles, Washington, Boston again, and Oakland’s gain.

Oh, and the Long Island Ducks.

My two year old phone decided it needs to be activated, and that the SIM isn’t valid. But my carrier says everything’s fine on their end and the SIM worked in a different phone.

I’m just extra aggravated because I’m traveling at the moment.

And because the Apple chat bots were real slow to get around to understanding my issue.

The problem happened when I tried connecting to a public WiFi network at a trade show. It might have been a nefarious network and I hope my personal details aren’t already on the dark net.
