What to Watch
In my opinion, Leake is the type of pitcher who could give the Cubs the most trouble when he’s on. He throws strikes at an above average rate, and gets ground balls at an above average rate. However, he doesn’t get too many K’s, and the Cubs do a lot of damage when they put the ball in play.
Lackey and Heyward are making their return to St. Louis. I’m sure some of the classy fans will clap, and the jerk fans will boo. Hopefully Lackey keeps the ball down.
Will the Cubs Win?
They’ve done it a bunch so far, so why not.

Same here. I think I had to do that like three separate times in my wasted youth. Once for OM, then we did something similar for a “technical education” class in middle school. I think we must have done it in Cubs scouts at some point too.

berselius,
I built a robot for my OM. When my brother did OM (and I was the coach) they made a mouse trap. OM was goofy fun.
So did we ever establish how Myles dislocated his shoulder? If no info yet I’ll just assume he was fighting the Yakuza.

Our bridge sucked. We couldn’t even get it to support the initial platform that the weights were supposed to go on. So now I’m an accountant.

I goofed on the Cubs lineup. Montero and Soler should be switched.

Brutal strike out by Heyward
JonKneeVQuote Reply
Ugh. Leadoff walks are the worst.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Heyward’s glove isn’t slumping.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Yeah, he’s already helped out quite a bit defensively. Too bad he’s sucked so much offensively.
dmick89Quote Reply
Yay! Leadoff walks are the best.

‘Yuge’ is the term the cool kids use these days.
umbraQuote Reply
This battle of two perennial Cy Young candidates certainly isn’t disappointing.
ceruleanQuote Reply
People who say “huge” are losers. If you want to be a winner, say “yuge” or get your ass kicked by those who do.

This feels more like a poorly-hit game than a well-pitched one.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Let me tell you something. The strike zone just got ten feet higher.

Either the Gameday cam is off, or the umpire behind the plate is having a really bad night. Not very consistent zone at all.
MillertimeQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
I think each of the last four have been poorly hit games. At least a couple of them were also well pitched games, but this offense is shit right now.
dmick89Quote Reply
Millertime,
He’s been terrible.

I guess I should point out that last night I dreamt that I wrote a satirical song to the tune of The 12 Days of Christmas which single-handedly prevented a Trump presidency.
Seems more plausible than this game.

Travis Wood was excellent in 2014. OPS+ of 91. Last year was awful though.

cerulean,
Yes, but he’s in the bullpen. I should have specified that I meant the rotation.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
But he was in the rotation. (It feels like so long ago now, but that was last year.)

umbraQuote Reply
cerulean,
My point is that the current rotation consists of hitherto weak hitters. And Arrieta. The success they’ve been having this year is probably an aberration.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
What if their past failures were the TRUE abberation?
umbraQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
Got it. I think we were spoiled for many years with the likes of Z in the lineup.
As for the current rotation, I like the improvements from Lester—he has looked less lost and it has shown up in his batting line. Hammel was all that much worse than Arrieta last year either. I haven’t caught any Hendricks at-bats yet, so no comment.

Everyone savoring the first defeat of the Cardinals? They have put up the most runs and the Cubs did what was done to them yesterday. Good to see Bryant get that inning started and Lackey to cap off a crooked number. And it ended before midnight. I couldn’t ask for a better outcome.
ceruleanQuote Reply
He might be a worse hitter than Lester.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
That game was enjoyable for the snippets I Gameday’d/watched/listened to. I happened to listen to the bad error that allowed Soler to reach base before the floodgates opened. Very fun.
