The Cubs hitters have never faced Velasquez.
The Phillies hitters in today's lineup have hit Lackey pretty well, but none of them have a very large sample. Ryan Howard has both of the home runs hit against Lackey.
Will the Cubs win? Yes, but it could go either way.
538 Forecast: 70% chance of winning
Comments
So, Ryan Howard isn’t even getting starts against righties? Sad.

@cerulean hammel’s shitty elo rating is why I don’t put any credence into elo ratings. Except for when they tell me that kerry wood pitched the greatest game of all time.
EnricoPallazzoQuote Reply
If their Elo botched that, they blew it.

I guess OV doesn’t recognize me on mobile. Logged in but it keeps me logged out, at least at the posting of this comment.

Ongoing issue we’re having. Happened when we moved to the new server and the new host has spent a ton of time tracking down the reason. It’s being worked on. Wish I could say a solution would come soon, but I just don’t know. Even if it shows you as not logged in, you actually are. Sorry about this.

Rice Cube,
Before the current login glitch started, I used to have difficulty staying logged in on my phone. Then I realized I was in private browsing mode in safari and that solved it.
SKQuote Reply
SK,
Although, just now I experienced the glitch on my phone so never mind. Refresh always seems to help.
SKQuote Reply
This seems to be an equal-opportunity glitch. It happens on mobile. It happens on desktop. It happens in a box with a fox. From there to here, from here to there, login glitches everywhere.
I feel your pain, dmick. But it’s not unusable.
Also, do some of you experience the comments not loading after submission and having to refresh the page for that reason?
ceruleanQuote Reply
The problem seems more pronounced on the phone. It seems like comments have a hard time refreshing either way, I’ve noticed.

There is no way he hits into a DP if he bunts. Bunt early, bunt often, that’s my philosophy.

cerulean,
The comments don’t appear after posting a comment if the site happens to register you as not logged in after posting the comment. It’s bizarre. I’ve spent a lot of time looking into this and all I can do at this point is make sure the host is working on it. They are. We briefly thought we had the solution, but it didn’t work. The only other option is to use Disqus and I think we’d prefer not to do that. Also, it would make testing possible solutions much more difficult. I think it has to do with the cache settings, but the hosting guys are adamant it’s not that.

dmick89,
Hostgator put a trojan in your code. “You’ll be back,” they say, “You’ll be back.”
ceruleanQuote Reply
I don’t have a problem getting the comments to load. Are you having that problem?
By the way, guys, if you do experience some sort of issue, a screen recording of it would be wonderful.

Ha, I’ve actually wondered if the database has been corrupted from their fucked up servers. I might see about setting up a sandbox site with a fresh database and importing only the necessary stuff to see what happens. I might need 6 or 8 of you to help me out since the problem seems to only happen when more than one person is on the site. I didn’t have this issue at all when I was setting it up.

That Phillies lineup, though…
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Cubs doing a good job normalizing his platoon splits.
ceruleanQuote Reply
Even so. Lackey goes after hitters. Any half-way solid contact in air has a chance.

Thanks. I will.

Ugh, that Szczur pop-out had an EV of 50 mph.

Hopefully Rizzo can get going on a day like this.

b-ref has Velaquez as a switch-hitter, but he’s hitting right-handed. Odd.

Looks like his b-ref page is just wrong. It happens.

Is it just me or are there more left handlers who have these exaggerated open stances? Is there a reason for it?

dmick89,
Maybe because they coaches are primarily right handed so lefties have a little more leeway to be creative?
joshQuote Reply
Does that bucket if ammonia thing work? I imagine you’d need a well ventilated area. Hot as hell in my workshop
joshQuote Reply
josh,
Could be. I can’t think of any benefit that lefties would gain by having those exaggerated stances, but maybe there is.
dmick89Quote Reply
dmick89,
I had an open stance because my eyes didn’t work right. It helped me see the ball all the way to the plate. Note that an wretched hitter
joshQuote Reply
Wow. That was weird.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply

Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Same thing for Zobrist.

When I worked in pharmaceutical production, we were required to wear gowns over our uniforms, and it could get intolerable—tyvek doesn’t breathe well. But we had a ton of isopropyl alcohol for cleaning hands and surfaces. Alcohol evaporates several times faster than water. So spraying that on gloves was usually enough to keep body temp in check. I bet the ammonia has the same effect. It’s probably prevents/alleviates the stink too. But I’m just guessing.

Bad baserunning by Fowler there.

As of right now the Cubs are +132 in run differential. That’s +2.75 per game.
dmick89Quote Reply
dmick89,
That’s way better than the Phillies.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
That’s almost double the next best team (Red Sox). That’s impressive.

The Cubs are 231 runs better in run differential than the Reds. (dying laughing)
