(note: I have one usable arm at the moment so this is short and sweet)
We have pitchers going against their pitchers. Ours are better
We have hitters, as do the White Sox. Ours are pretty good and theirs suck
I want to see how Yoan Moncada does and thats about it for them
We have won a lot lately and they havent won in like 4 months
this is a rivalry the same way men with guns and deer is a rivalry

Hendricks is sitting around 84-85. Here’s hoping he can dial that up when he has to face a MLB team.

84-85 with a 77-79 mph chancge up. Doesn’t get much worse than that.
dmick89Quote Reply
I’d feel a lot better about the Cubs playoff odds if Hendricks wasn’t broken.
dmick89Quote Reply
Strange, apparently his velo looked a lot better in his Iowa start last week.
Berselius is too lazy to loginQuote Reply
Hendricks grandslam please.
ceruleanQuote Reply
That was the opposite of a grandslam, but I’ll take it.
ceruleanQuote Reply
Abreu has Hendricks’ number. 112 and 103mph off the bat.
ceruleanQuote Reply
I missed the 1st inning, but over the last two innings, Hendricks has ranged between 83-85 and has hit 86 a couple times. His change up has ranged from 77-80.
dmick89Quote Reply
hendricks is getting rocked, but has been obscenely lucky.
mylesQuote Reply
myles,
Unless we see a quick improvement over a start or two, I’d much rather have Montgomery in the rotation.
dmick89Quote Reply
Kyle almost certainly has to have some kind of arm injury (elbow or shoulder) that he’s not talking about. Pitchers just don’t lose as much velocity as he has in less than a year. That’s especially true for someone his age.
dmick89Quote Reply
When Hendricks has to face a real mlb lineup, he’s going to get rocked.
dmick89Quote Reply
I think Schwarber must have excellent proprioception.
ceruleanQuote Reply
Hendricks has been pretty inefficient to boot. But I guess it’s hard to be efficient with velocity that low.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Ah, there’s Joe’s “let the pitcher hit for himself and then take him out in the next inning” move.
PerkinsQuote Reply
At least Justin Grimm has been great this year, excepting all those times he hasn’t.

Montgomery and maybe even Anderson are better bets than Hendricks if this is the guy that is back. He’s even worse than before he went on the DL.

ceruleanQuote Reply
Worse than losing to a shitty team is that Kyle Hendricks looked like complete shit. His velocity was even down from what it was when he went on the DL and there’s about a 6 mph difference between his sinker and his change. He’s either going to need to learn to throw the change slower or he’s fucked.

Rice CubeQuote Reply
Rice Cube,
Yeah, this team all season has had troubles avoiding losing streaks so it’s really just about coming back and winning a couple or few in a row. They probably had their worst starter going today and could easily have been blown out. The White Sox stranded a lot of runners early. Hopefully the offense wakes up tomorrow because Lackey will surely give up several runs.

I could see Verlander/Avila/Wilson/third of Verlander’s contract for Almora + random top 10 org prospect in the very near future.
mylesQuote Reply
Not that I love the deal, but it matches up with what DET is looking for (money and OF prospects).
mylesQuote Reply
myles,
I would do that in a heartbeat. It will take more than that.
I don’t understand why people are saying that Verlander no longer has it—his fastball is still excellent. It’s his slider and curve haven’t been as effective (and are likely the reason for the walk and hard contact spikes). If for less than $20M a year for the next three years, Verlander is taking the mound every fifth day, I will take that. He is four years younger than Lackey and has always been a better pitcher.
ceruleanQuote Reply
Over the past 4 years, Lackey has a better ERA and SO/BB than Verlander. 40 fewer strikeouts but 30 fewer walks.
mylesQuote Reply
Lackey has a lower WHIP over that timeframe, too.
mylesQuote Reply
I think Verlander can eat innings and be a #3 or #4 starter in the playoffs, which is worth 20 MM a year. thinking on it, you might be right insofar that the Cubs might need to throw in a touch more.
mylesQuote Reply
myles,
But over that same time period, Verlander has been 95% less horsefaced.
ceruleanQuote Reply
myles,
Lackey spent much of that time in the NL, though.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
my numbers say 97%, but close enough.
