OSS: Jake Marisnick leads the offense in a blowout
Three up:
- The whole offense was straight fire today, but Jake Marisnick was the big standout with a 5 RBI day. He got things going with a bases-clearing double in the first, knocked in the elusive runner on third in the second inning, and added a solo shot for good measure in the fourth inning. Not too shabby, especially when you consider that most of this was off of right handed pitching, and he was mostly kept around to face lefties.
- Every other member of the starting lineup got at least one hit (sorry Cyle, you don’t count here). I’m kind of shocked to see in the box score that the Cubs hit only four dingers – they were certainly crushing the baseball all day. Contreras, Rizzo, and Baez joined Marisnick in the homer party, while KB remains scorching hot at the plate.
- After a disaster of an outing on Sunday, Cyle righted the ship with a solid, Cyle-like six innings today.
Three down:
- I’m not gonna complain about a double digit win, (dying laughing).
Next up:
The Cubs will take another crack at solving Three True Outcome Machine Freddy Peralta tomorrow. He faces Adbery Alzolay at 1:20 PM CT. We’ll see if I’m awake enough when my second covid shot kicks in tomorrow morning (dying laughing).
Also, ICYMI, Pat Hughes is doing the tv play-by-play on Sunday’s game, which should be a treat!

Goddamn, deGrom’s pitching line tonight. Good thing they pushed back his start, he would have thrown a 27k game (dying laughing)

Not surprising to see Javy get a day off vs Peralta – he would find a way to strike out five times in four plate appearances if he got the start.

Pat used the term “side hustle”.
But it’s OK, because he was using it in relation to AG Spalding.

SK,
however, Pat, I would assert that the sporting goods bit was the main hustle and the baseball playing was just a means to world domination

Relieved af. Lance made so much more sense than Jones, but all the smoke was concerning.
Love Lance, but CHI fans should be really excited. Fields is a 1.1 talent and his “fall” has shades of Watson-like overthinking.
And GB just refuses to help Rodgers, huh? There were two WRs and one OL I liked in the first when they picked. And they didn’t even pick the right Georgia CB.
RynoQuote Reply
Ryno,
Live look at Packers draft room.
berseliusQuote Reply
Ryno,
To be fair though, given most glaring hole in the Packers roster in the NFC championship game, I always figured they were going to go for a CB.
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
My son, who’s thirteen and suddenly a football news freak and a 6’ linebacker, was running all these trade rumors and crazy scenarios (most of them involving the Bears getting Justin Fields and the Packers trading Aaron Rodgers) past me for the past three months. Finally I told him, “Look, the Bears aren’t getting Fields and the Packers aren’t trading Aaron Rodgers. That’s not how life works.”
Now he thinks you get what you want in life and I don’t know how to prove to him, other than by example, that it just ain’t true.
andcountingQuote Reply
andcounting,
Just sit him down to watch the 2021 Cubs, that will teach him to learn.
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
I guess it’s odd given their choices last year. Especially in the first round. Plus, I don’t think Stokes was the best CB in any sense.
Besides, defensive coordinator was their biggest need and I think they handled that.

This Cubs team feels like one of those middling 2005 or 2009 ones that has a great chance of sweeping a team like the Dodgers after dropping a bunch of games to other shitty NL Central teams because nothing has to make sense and they’re going to win around eighty games.
