Dreamcast 55: How the Cubs Saved Christmas

Hey everyone, happy holidays! The Cubs pulled off a last minute present just in time even if it wasn’t our first choice in signing Dansby Swanson. Among the various fun topics from AC’s various very good questions include:

  • The fallout from the Carlos Correa drama session
  • How we feel about the Cubs as currently constructed
  • What the Cubs still need to do
  • …and more!

Please rate and review us on Apple Podcasts and share us with your friends. Thanks for listening, and hope you get plenty of fun presents.

  1. Both the Podbean embedded player and the in-Wordpress player on this page seem to work. I hope it shows up on the OV feed as well as I did what Berselius told me to do.

  2. The bad man is going to be reinstated next season and the Dodgers will likely eat the cost and release him so I really hope the Cubs don’t even think about considering a passing thought about him

  3. Good thread on he who should never be allowed to pitch in MLB (or anywhere else) again:

  4. Rice Cube,

Hard to believe a different Boras client went to SF, at least I thought Conforto was one.

And I wouldn’t rule out a trade with the Mets for one of the guys pushed out by Correa playing 3rd.

  5. Rice Cube,

(dying laughing), I’d take Escobar over Bust, and I’d think he’d pretty much want a trade, but what do I know about getting paid $10 million to be a backup?

  6. andcounting,

Lots of Cubs fans pivoting to a Bryan Reynolds trade but I don’t see how that helps much unless they move someone to 1B off the starting OF and are okay with giving up a bunch of their pitching depth

  7. I don’t have a high opinion of any front office’s moral standing when it comes to talent acquisition, but I think they all have a sliding scale of performance against headaches and an inflection point beyond which it’s not worth it. Carlos Zambrano did a lot of mostly silly hotheaded antics and the Cubs dumped him when he dipped below league average.

Bauer is radioactive: beyond (probably) being a rapist, he has additional sideshows like Zambrano-esque on-field behavior, injuries from hobbies, and being a constant PR liability by beefing with randos on Twitter. I’m sure some team will prove me wrong, but I think he’d have to be a clear CYA favorite every year to be worth signing.

  8. Rice Cube,

I don’t see any way that trade happens in a way that makes sense for the Cubs. The Pirates don’t want to trade him and would only do so if they can rob someone blind.

  9. BVS,

For those that are listening including BVS please feel free to point out any suggestions or glitches you noticed, also would appreciate comments on content, flow, why I always sound like a fucking robot, etc <3

  10. Rice Cube,

(dying laughing) on the Coda. Hope you get an upgrade!

I don’t think you sound like a robot. I think you do a great job summing up what the rest of us say and making it sound like we had a point!

I’ll try to figure out the headset issue so it doesn’t sound like I’m in an empty shipping container.

  11. BVS,

I think all things considered you sounded better than many podcast guests on other shows I’ve listened to, it was only a marginal echo. Since we don’t deal with a video feed a quick fix is to just record under a heavy blanket to muffle the echo.

  12. Does paint a good picture of the Cubs finances

If I were feeling motivated I’d just go through Levine’s timeline to do a top 10 all time tweet list for him.

  13. I also doubt anything could ever touch Arson Judge for best sports twitter typo of the year, considering it helped burn Giants Nation to the ground.

  14. Rice Cube,

They may, but nothing is final. If they’re saying the deal is subject to get reworked, who’s to say someone else wouldn’t come in willing to gamble a bit more? I’m not confident this is getting done until the contract is signed.

Honestly, I want to see the video of you recording the podcast from underneath a big heavy blanket.
