Can’t say I’m gonna miss him. And based on past oblique comments I remember hearing over the years, the same goes for other folks in the Cubs media room.
Important softball update – the Nukes emulated the Cubs tonight, getting walked off by the last place team followed by an easy mercy rule win over the league leaders in game two.
Sounds like they have better priorities to deal with but the special session might be sooner than expected, they do have a few months before the A’s revenue sharing rights go poof
I don’t give two f’s about golf, but this is hilarious. Sounds like the Saudis made a pitch to the PGA higher ups that really moved them…to a bigger house.
I can only imagine what the Angels coaches are going to say about their SP trying to make a barehanded catch of a line drive with his pitching hand (dying laughing).
He’s a good stop-the-bleeding guy. He’s not a closer, but he’s not a disaster either. I actually think he would have made more sense than Hughes (which made no sense) if they absolutely had to take Wesneski out in the 5th.
I ask mainly because first base was open (and Hughes sure pitched like the plan was to pitch around Ohtani) and then two righties named Trout and Rendon came up next. Hughes has traditional platoon splits and Leiter has reverse splits. If the plan was to pitch around Ohtani I don’t think either guy made sense. I agree Leiter was probably a better option than Hughes and that the situation was probably advantage-Angels regardless. But seeing as though Wesneski pretty much got the shaft from luck and the defense that inning, he still seemed like the best option to me.
I think Wesneski was gassed but also seemed to have enough oomph to at least try for the out, though the last time he faced Ohtani was the HR that was a 3B that should have been an ITPHR except they correctly ruled it went above the yellow line, but other than that one really dumb blowup, Leiter has been good against both handedness and that splitter or whatever he throws is pretty effective against lefties, so if Wesneski was gonna be out, that might have been my go-to since Leiter can at least go the next inning and maybe even the one after that. But Hughes would have been okay as the last-out-of-the-inning LOOGY, but once he walked Ohtani I figured they were screwed.
I also think that a good portion of the pitchers suddenly sucking is not Ross’ fault, though there are plenty of lineup constructions and reliever deployments thus far that make you shake your head (dying laughing)
Had an interesting conversation with someone re: batted ball hitting a runner, reading the rulebook in 5.09(b)(7) it seems like the runner is out and ball is dead, no questions asked, right?
There’s a difference between not Ross’s fault and Ross just doing nothing to contribute positively to the overall mentality of the team. He makes bad decisions and he’s overwhelmingly uninspiring. That’s my take anyway.
I suppose you can read into the frustration and lack of confidence within the team itself, yes…I don’t think you even have to dig too closely to see it at times.
Fergie Jenkins is the best pitcher Canada has ever produced.
On Saturday, Jenkins will be on hand in his hometown of Chatham, Ontario where a replica statue will be unveiled.@Britt_Ghiroli talked with Jenkins about what the honor means to him:https://t.co/YjS3yP1YHb
This team’s in a really weird spot for the trade deadline. They could get a hefty return for Stroman (and possibly a couple others), but then there’s probably no way they’re competitive next year.
