The Cubs have some work to do, obviously, but MLB did just release the postseason schedule:
I think the Cubs have a good shot at snagging at least one of the wild cards, but if they can somehow win the division, they’ll still likely have to play in the initial wild card round. Unfortunately MLB still can’t keep the World Series out of November, but the last time the Cubs were in the World Series they won in November, so that’s okay if it happens again.
Fun to note that the Wild Card rounds are sponsored by a tire company, the division rounds are sponsored by a travel company, the league championship series are sponsored by a loan company, and the World Series by a credit card. Diversification!
Here’s a date-by-date breakdown by the Rays beat guy:
And here’s Boob noting the scheduled off days which should help NL managers set their rotations more optimally:
Here’s hoping we can actually consider those off days come October.
Comments
Nightengale does note there are buttloads of off days baked into the schedule, will update shortly.

Crazy as it seems, the Cubs are currently in the final NL wildcard position.

The hardest part was remembering which random pitcher was a Twins and a Pirates and then which Rogers twin as the actual Twins

Rice Cube,
So for the hellofit I decided to try the turn of the century guys in the mlb article. Turns out that there’s a landmine there in that there was an NL Washington Senators team in the 1890s that didn’t become the AL Senators in 1901 and then the Twins. So that cost me 2 guesses, but the remaining guy that fit added .01 to the rarity score. Using Rich Hill doesn’t necessarily minimize rarity, (dying laughing).

Today’s rabbit hole: A lot of RoYs have meh careers, but still some period of productivity after there rookie seasons. Even Mark Fydritch added a couple WAR to 9.5 WAR rookie season, though he’s mainly known as a one season wonder.
But since 1970, Alfredo Griffen, Pat Listach, Joe Charboneau, and Butch Metzger all amassed more than 100% of their career bWAR in their rookie season. But Angel Berroa leads them all with a whopping 250% of his career WAR from his rookie year. Still made over $3,000,000 though.

BVS,
This implies super negative WAR after that first season which seems bad
