  2. Love any Lou Brown shoutout.

I’d comment more but I’ve got a guy on the other line asking about some whitewalls.

  3. Round 4: Ty Southisene, high school SS from Nevada

The top player in the state of Nevada for the 2024 Draft, Southisene has consistently performed well at showcase events, raising his profile by playing on USA Baseball’s 18U team in 2022 and participating in MLB events like States Play in 2022 and the 2023 Dream Series. His twin brother, Tee, is also a decent 2024 Draft prospect, while younger brother, Tate, might be one of the better prep options from the Silver State in 2025. Southisene is undersized at 5-foot-9, but that won’t keep teams from being interested in his solid all-around toolset. He might be a plus hitter in time, showing an ability to make hard contact with an advanced approach at the plate and an affinity for breaking down his at-bats and swing. He can try to get big and sell out for power at times, but when he stays within himself he finds the barrel against all kinds of pitching with excellent bat speed and should naturally get to solid power. A quick-twitch athlete, Southisene’s plus baseball IQ and instincts enable all his tools to play up. His arm might traditionally be a little short, but because of his release, his hands and footwork, he has every chance to stick at shortstop. Teams willing to look past the Tennessee recruit’s size could help him follow in the footsteps of such Nevada prep bats taken in the top three rounds as Justin Crawford and Tyler Whitaker.

  5. berselius,

I guess I shouldn’t throw many stones given how the retiree population skews things here. There’s an Italian place on my commute that is at its busiest at 5 pm (dying laughing)

  6. One thing I forgot to mention on the pod is that the data in the pitch trax system for Miles Mastrobuoni is absurdly inaccurate. Obviously it should be adjusted down for him, but what shows up on the screen (and in the app FWIW) is below his waist. That’s why it always looks like he’s getting screwed on high strikes.

  7. Round 8: Edgar Alvarez, 1B from Nicholls State
Round 9: Brooks Caple, P from Lamar University
Round 10: Matt Halbach, 3B from UCSD (didn’t even know they had a baseball team)

And that’s it for Day 2

  8. I’m not one to police the word literally, but I hate Karl Ravech, so I guffawed at him saying a baseball player is β€œliterally on fire, right now.” (dying laughing)

  11. Round 11: Eli Lovich, high school OF from Kansas

Most scouts believe that the 6-foot-4, 175-pound Lovich isn’t physically ready for pro ball and would be better off attending Arkansas, but there are a couple of clubs who might pay him enough to lure him away from college. The teams that are on Lovich like his left-handed swing and athleticism, and think he might have solid tools across the board once he’s physically developed. Others think that’s a deep projection and would like to see him prove himself with the Razorbacks. If he gets drafted, it will be as a hitter, but he’s also a three-pitch left-hander with an upper-80s fastball who might be something on the mound once he gets stronger.

  12. Rice Cube,

Personally, I figured she just hadn’t rehearsed in the stadium and was completely thrown off by the echo/delay of the sound system. She seemed to rediscover her pitch (still not great) each time she paused and then got progressively more terrible until the next break.

I dunno, being drunk off her ass may have been part of that whole thing or it may just be an easier PR nightmare to recover from than just being generally unprofessional.

    andcounting,

On a scale from 1 to Roseanne, how bad was it really? (dying laughing)

Probably worse than Roseanne’s since Barr was doing a bit whereas this one was an attempt at music that didn’t sound at all superior. Lots of screeching for both though.

  15. I think it’s dumb that MLB swapped the league and team jerseys for HRD vs ASG. It was always cool to see the players all in their own jerseys for the game.
