isnt a strain a tear though?
Maybe I’m not getting the full news. I just saw that he reaggravated the same injury. He’s rehabbing, and IIRC torn labrum = surgery.
A strain is a minor tear. If he aggravated it it probably means the tear didn’t heal and might have gotten a bit worse. But most of the muscle/ligament is probably still hanging on strong so that’s why they’re not exploring surgery. I doubt any team elects to have surgery unless they absolutely have to.

There are 3 types of tears. A grade 1 is just a minor tear, grade 2 is a partial tear and grade 3 is a complete rupture in the muscle tissue (think Nomar).
and i know mb21 isnt fond of him but im willing to take a wait and see with Ha.
It’s not that I’m not fond of him, DJ. I hope he improves. I think jtsunami’s ranking (6th) is about right. He’s improved plate discipline away from being a top prospect. It’s easier said than done.
yeah i understand. it may just be me but i think our farm is down a decent amount from when the season started.
Considering it would have been ranked about 8th before the Garza trade and 19th after, it’s way down from where it was just 6 to 8 months ago. They have an awful farm system. I’m not yet sold on Whitenack. Or McNutt to be honest. McNutt reminds me of Jay Jackson. Not a high draft pick who skyrocketed through the organization. I’m always hesitant to think too highly of those guys.
This is the first Cubs game I’ve watched in a week, and I’m ready to watch something else.
iTunes has several games from the 2008 season that are much more worth watching than anything from 2011. Ye gods this team is bad.
Red’s announcers: “Reds scored three runs on a ball that never left the infield”
Technically it did leave the infield when the throw hit the camera out of the field of play thus allowing two of the runs to score.
what the hell was that? He walked halfway to the dugout before going to 1b
I thought if he leaves the box without attempting to go to 1B he is automatically out.
I thought it was changed as a response to the Pierzynski play against the Angels in the 05 playoffs.
I don’t think AJ left the batter’s box. He has to make an initial attempt to get to 1B. If he doesn’t it’s automatically out. I could be wrong though.
Brantley said that as if that’s the game plan for teams against the Cubs this year too.
I’d tell my team to do this. Reds announcers know their shit.
Brantley is an idiot.
I don’t know, Melissa. He’s said about 757 things the last two days that have been said on this blog about the Cubs. Only 3 of them have been said by Len and Bob. Brantley may be an idiot, but we’re idiots too because I swear the guy has been reading this blog.
I take back everything I have said about Quade not being deserving of this job. The Cubs are a AA team. Quade is more than qualified to be coaching a AA team.
I don’t know, Melissa. He’s said about 757 things the last two days that have been said on this blog about the Cubs. Only 3 of them have been said by Len and Bob. Do you really expect the announcers paid by the Cubs to criticize them like the opposition would? Brantley is a blowhard and a legend in his own mind, I don’t enjoy listening to him. I’m pretty sure everyone here would like him about as much as they do Brenly if he were the announcer for the Cubs.
Now tHom and Brantley are talking about how they watched a lot of Reds games just like the Cubs are playing tonight and that the Reds never had the payroll this team does.
I like these guys. i went into this series with a strong dislike for tHom, but i actually like the guy now.

Not even close. Every other announcer has thought this team could contend. Every one of them. These guys think the Cubs are a joke. They’re right and much smarter than any other announcer I’ve heard call a Cubs game this season.

Jeff Brantley went to Mississippi State, plenty of reason to like the guy and never question his intelligence. Now if he went to Ole Miss, then I would see how he could be an idiot.
FWIW. Brenly’s been quite blunt about the shittiness of the Cubs today
Brenly has been better at that this year. He’s also picked on other players for a change as well. I really haven’t had much to complain about with regards to Brenly this year.
Brenneman and Brantley are notorious for bashing the Cubs even when they aren’t bad, this isn’t a revelation. (dying laughing)
Not the Cubs team, Melissa. I listened to them call Cubs games in 2007 and 2008 and they were always picking on the Cubs for some obscure bullshit reason.
Brennaman earned my respect last night when he went on and on about the great career Zambrano has had. He even talked about wins argument and flat out said it ain’t his fault the team didn’t score. I’ve never heard an announcer say that about a pitcher. Any pitcher. These guys may be blowhards. I don’t doubt that and wouldn’t argue with it, but they’re a hell of a lot more intelligent than the two calling the Cubs games.
but they’re a hell of a lot more intelligent than the two calling the Cubs games.
Jesus, such high standards we have for others.
Say what you want about the Cubs infield, but that was pretty much all on two plays by the pitchers. I don’t know that this game is really evidence of the defense being crappy. I mean, it’s two pitchers throwing two balls away that results in five runs . . . (dying laughing)
They were runs regardless. Epic fail.
They might have to resolve that. They could argue that the runs would have scored afterward anyway, but they would have to rule that a good throw from Wood wouldn’t have retired the runner at third, in which case that run at the very least wouldn’t have scored. But I suppose that’s a judgment call by the scorer. Or something.

ESPN’s box score is showing Wood has two earned runs, but MLB.com’s box score shows all runs unearned. I think I’m more inclined to believe MLB.com though.
This is kind of like trying to decide which bullet killed Kennedy.
And to think this team was a honest WS contender just 3 years ago.

Whether or not the runs Woody allowed were earned, he gave up 4 hits in 1 inning. Bad luck and all that of course, but it’s not like he was lights out.

Brennaman seems a little less douchey these days but “Cowboy” Brantley is still a tool. Even if he says something non-stupid once in awhile, I can’t stand hearing him say it.
I don’t know that I’ve ever had an issue with Brantley before, but I never liked Brennaman before this series. After these last two games I at least have some respect for him. I enjoyed Brantley a lot.
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of Brennaman or Brantley, but I’m also the only one here who likes Len, so whatever.
The problems I have with Len are that he never tells us where the fielders are position or who is up in the bullpen. But I never really thought about the bullpen or positioning stuff before.
Len may bring up some advanced stats, but he doesn’t use them. He uses the same stupid small sample stats that every other announcer uses.
Starling is the best athlete in the 2011 draft. As a pitcher, he’d be a potential first-round pick as a 6-foot-5, 195-pound righthander with a fastball that touches 95 mph. He’s also a gifted quarterback who earned a scholarship from Nebraska after leading Gardner-Edgerton to the Kansas 5-A state semifinals as a senior. Starling ran for 2,377 yards and 31 touchdowns last fall, while passing for 790 yards and eight more scores. Despite his ability on the mound and on the gridiron, his future is as a five-tool center fielder who resembles Drew Stubbs. Starling missed nearly a month with a quad injury this spring, but that didn’t dent scouts’ enthusiasm, and he homered twice in his first game back. His strength, bat speed and the leverage in his righthanded swing give him above-average power. His swing got long at times on the showcase circuit, but Starling did a nice job of shortening it and making consistent hard contact later in the summer. His speed is as impressive as his power, making him a basestealing threat and giving him plenty of range in center field. He has the power and arm strength to profile as a star in right field as well. Starling has faced little in the way of challenging high school competition and will need to smooth out rough edges in his game in pro ball, but that hasn’t prevented him from making the short list of candidates to go No. 1 overall to the Pirates.
Len may bring up some advanced stats, but he doesn’t use them. He uses the same stupid small sample stats that every other announcer uses.
True, but I think he does enough with not relying on RBIs and Wins to evaluate and discuss players. My only real frame of reference is previous Cubs booths, the White Sox booth (I HATE THEM), and the national media, which has mostly consisted of Joe Morgan, Tim McCarver, Joe Morgan, Joe Buck, Joe Morgan, Aaron Boone, Mark Grace, Dick Stockton, Rick Sutcliffe, etc. Len’s the first I can actually listen to without punching myself.
Tho I really do like Drew Staats for the Rays, tho.
Lindor moved to the United States from Puerto Rico as a 12-year-old, and four years later he captained USA Baseball’s 16U club to a gold-medal victory against Cuba in the World Youth Championship in Taiwan. A baseball rat, Lindor has tremendous work ethic to go with above-average tools, and he plays the game with ease and passion. He’s a switch-hitter with a line-drive stroke from both sides of the plate, and he has excellent hands that work both at the plate and in the field. He has the tools to play shortstop at the highest level, with smooth actions, fluidity, instincts and good fundamentals. He’s a plus runner but not a burner. Lindor’s power is the biggest question about him. He has flashed more than just gap power at times, which was pushing him up draft boards. His season ended in April, and he wasn’t expected to play in Florida’s high school all-star game, instead working out on his own. Scouting directors said Lindor was a legitimate candidate for the No. 1 overall pick, but more likely he’ll slot in just behind that.
Len reminds me of all the guys you mentioned. To be honest, I haven’t heard him evaluate a single player without using traditional stats. Batting average is the first thing he always brings up.
Maybe discussions in private are different, but on the air they’re similar to every other PBP announcer in the game in my opinion.
Whatever, it’s not a huge deal. I’m somewhat shocked you’d lump Len in with that group, though.

I don’t think it matters what or who Wilken loves. For one thing, he’s pretty bad at his job. 2) the Cubs aren’t going to allow them to spend the kind of money it would take to draft any of those guys anyway.

I’m strange though, I can’t listen to most broadcasters because they drive me up a wall with their canned lines, clear homerism and espousal of things that have proven to be untrue. But I never really thought about the bullpen or positioning stuff before.
Len may bring up some advanced stats, but he doesn’t use them. He uses the same stupid small sample stats that every other announcer uses.
Jeez, it was just a link. You don’t have to try to have an opinion about it, faget.
I didn’t try, slapnuts.

Anyways, are there any plug-ins or programs that need to run for me to see comments? I can’t see it on IE or Firefox on my PC, and I reinstalled FF and I also created a new user with a clean registry and still nothing.

Can you send me a screen cap of the page when you load it? Does the component not show up at all? When did this start happening? Can you see the comments on this page: http://demo.joomlatune.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=45:joomla-community-portal-online&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=50#comments ?

On the same computer you’re having problems

If this is happening to you then I’m sure it’s happening to others. Maybe we need a new comment component.

I like the part during the 8th inning where the WPA needle looked like it took Viagra.
If the Cubs actually take someone in the top 30, I’m betting it’s Lindor. He’s the perfect player for Wilken. I’m still doubtful that they’ll take anyone in the top 30. Probably not even in the top 100.
I’m thinking Starling or the Bradleys.

Well I don’t have access to it atm, but it would just look like a normal thread as if there were no comments. If I post a comment, it accepts it (I’d double check on my ipad) but I still don’t see the comments stream. I’m using Firefox on my work PC and have no problems, and no probs on the iPad. It’s really weird.

Like I need any of that. I have two cases.
Starling is the type of OF Wilken loves. So is Springer. I could see either of them being the pick. Lindor is too raw.

I don’t think it matters what or who Wilken loves. For one thing, he’s pretty bad at his job. 2) the Cubs aren’t going to allow them to spend the kind of money it would take to draft any of those guys anyway.

I’m inclined to believe the latter statement, but how did Wilken get such a good rep if he sucks?
