Iowa

Adrian Cardenas just keeps hitting and is up to .350. You are worthless Blake DeWitt. Chris Rusin had a great start working 8 innings and only allowing 2 hits while striking out 4. Brett Jackson is struggling a bit as of late and is only hitting .239 with a bit less power than you would hope for.

Smokies

Logan Watkins had a decent game. Tennessee remains a barren wasteland.

Daytona

Spellcheck Jr is breaking out of his slump. He went 1-3 with a walk and stole 3 bases as well. Rubi Silva has stayed hot and is now batting .367. Anybody remember Brian Schlitter? He is alive and well in Florida and worked a scoreless inning. He was followed by Tony Zych who went 2 scoreless innings of his own.

Peoria

Zeke DeVoss went 2-2 with a walk and Marco Hernandez continues to struggle. A lot of people including myself had hopes for Hernandez after a great year but so far A ball seems a bit much for him. But he is still young so even if he scuffles this year its not the end of his prospect status. Patrick Francescon had a really good start but anytime MD or I praise him he sucks so basically fuck Patrick Francescon.

I’ve been impressed with Rusin this year. I’m probably just remembering his good starts though. I wonder where he is on the depth chart right now. He could be the Cubs version of Narveson.

Torreyes reminds me of a poor man’s Castro. We have a lot of future utility players and RP’s in the minors. (dying laughing)

Authorities have not said whether the man urinated on the third rail.

I like that they included this, because it’s what everyone wants to know.

I wasn’t able to contribute to yesterday’s thread but a very important bit of information should have been conveyed. During the discussion of MB’s avatar, Mr. Mark Margolis, it was determined he plays Hector Salamanca of Breakin Bad. I feel it very important to acknowledge his work as Mr. Shickadance…..Ace Ventura’s landlord.

    Carry on.

I was at the show that night, and actually at Sluggers later, which is the bar nearest to where it was found. You guys could have been Mishless.

I’ve been prepared for the awfulness of this team since 2010, probably, so I will be enjoying this season with zen-like calm. Well, enjoy is probably the wrong word. Tolerate? Endure?

He got a little help, perhaps, but MLB.com posted a video of all 27 outs, and he was on a roll. Lots of pop flies, lots of swinging strikes. That was really the only debatable call, which is impressive in and of itself.

Yeah, I just thought it was an interesting take. I doubt anyone has ever thrown a perfecto without getting a call or two.

    @ Mercurial Outfielder:
It’s weird that the TV analysts didn’t review it. Usually that’s what they do. A lot of times, those ones that look like clear check swings in full motion, you can see are technically swings–in that the bat crosses the plate–in instant replay. It’s likely almost no check swings should be allowed, but the fact that we didn’t get to see it in slo-mo by the broadcast is disappointing, just to settle the controversy (bad call v. legit), not that it takes anything away from Humber, technically. Anyway, that angle is a little wonky on that video, so still hard to say. It was close enough that a check with the 1B umpire seemed like it was in order.

Yeah, but the Saints are just burning through the list of dirty tricks. This is like Ayn Rand owns a football team.

Also, it created a force out at home. I think the Tigers could have nailed the runner at home if the catcher hadn’t pointed down to first.

Fun fact, he is currently the all-time MLB leader in HR with 513. The next closest active player is Javy Vasquez with 383. (dying laughing) (dying laughing) (dying laughing)

    @ Mercurial Outfielder:
Not that you were asking for opinions or anything (dying laughing). That’s a terrible angle to judge whether or not his bat crossed the front of the plate. I’m one of those people that figures a perfect game (any well pitched game for that matter) comes with a few calls to your advantage. If that at-bat was in the 1st innings nobody cares about it. It wasn’t a terrible call and it may actually have been the correct call. The check swing isn’t defined in the rule book because the swing isn’t defined either. My understanding is that if you attempt to hit the ball then it’s a strike. I don’t know whether the batter did in that instance or not, but I could say the same about many and maybe even most check swing calls.

This. I’ve seen that all of Facebook today and I don’t see how that in any way is definitive. I will admit it makes it look way closer than I initially thought.

The fact that FOX refused to show the relevant replay tells me that he didn’t swing.

That’s exactly how I feel. This team is no fun to watch, but whatever. They’re not supposed to be. They won’t be any fun to watch in 2013 or 2014 either.

It made it look closer, but I think it’s just as shitty an angle to view it as the one from the CF camera.

We might even be able to replace no-hitter with 95% of all MLB games played. Maybe more. That’s why the Humber thing doesn’t bother me one bit. Maybe it was a bad call. They happen every game so if we’re going to put an asterisk by Humber’s then we’ll be putting one by all of them.

I think it’s more likely they consider that after the waiver deadline. While Soriano still has a shot at getting traded they have to keep him playing everyday in my opinion. Otherwise they might as well release him.

What RC said. The Cubs have to hope he can get hot for at least a few weeks at some point to draw some interest from an AL team in need of a DH. If you’re going to platoon him you may as well release him.

All right, I guess that’s fine. I was just trying to think of ways to make this team slightly more tolerable, but it’s all relative anyway.

I would be more shocked if the Cubs found a trade partner for Soriano than if they just released him outright.
