Brett Jackson was 1-3 with a pair of RBI's and Rafael Dolis had a good outing in his return to AAA. Dolis struck out 2 and didn't walk anyone to earn the save.
Jackson kept it up going 1-2 with his 6th HR of the year. He also had an OF assist. One thing to note is that while Jackson has his batting average up to .289 in his last 10 he isn't walking like he usually does. So far his walk rate is 11 % where last year it was 15. This might have a lot to do with the slump he was in as I imagine pitchers weren't afraid to go right after him but a big part of Jackson's game is his ability to get on base so hopefully we see that trend correct itself.
Junior Lake was 1-4 with a double and Frank Batista struck out the side for the save.
Nelson Perez hit a grand slam and Ronald Torreyes hit a walk off in the 9th for the win. I had really high hopes for Torreyes coming into the season but he has really floundered in high A so far. Hopefully he can get it back on track because up to this level he has flat out hit everywhere. Austin Kirk had a rough start giving up 5 ER in 5 IP.
I guess this qualifies as a good start for Gerlado Concepcion though that's damming with faint praise. He walked 4 and struck out 4 while allowing 2 ER over 6 IP. He managed to lower his ERA to just under 8.

Dolis actually skipped AAA on his way up. Last night was his first appearance ever at AAA.

Re: Rizzo for Cashner
As it stands, you have to think the Cubs are winning this trade so far even though Rizzo is in AAA. KG says Rizzo’s defense is “good” and his bat looks great even after the adjustments he made to shorten his swing. If Cashner is in fact going to be a starter, it’s going to take until 2015 for him to pitch a full season’s worth of innings. Meanwhile Rizzo will be here this year and I think even a pessimistic person would agree he is probably at least a 2 WAR player all things considered.

Agreed. I’d trade a reliever for an everyday position player any day. The fact the Cubs traded a hard throwing, oft-injured reliever for a very young, potentially awesome 1B is even better. Nobody knows how the trade will look in 5 years, but at this point there’s no way to look at this and not see this trade as a big win for the Cubs.

I didn’t know Cashner had multiple injury problems, but the argument overall makes sense, just from the fact that pitchers tend to be more easily broken then position players.

He’s got rotator cuff issues.

Ah okay. Actually, yeah, that makes the deal seem kind of dumb for San Diego.I guess they traded for Yonder Alonso, though, so that probably clears that up.

I still think the Alonso trade is an even more puzzling move than the Rizzo trade. The Padres traded players for a lesser 1b prospect, then traded their better 1b prospect for a fireballing injury risk.

Lost in this is that we also got a high upside, low level pitcher, Zach Cates.
He sucks so far, but that was a pretty decent throw in too (dying laughing)

Not exactly Josh Hamilton, but I’d take him.

A quick glance at the reverse standings makes me think it’s working out well for them. The final move, of course, will be trading Quentin.

Are there are Bryce Harpers or Stephen Strasburgs or Justin Uptons next year?

Too bad A- the Cubs aren’t in contention and B- they probably don’t have the droids Boston is looking for.

Maybe we could trade the PTBNL for that they still owe us as part of the Theo deal for Youkilis.
