Reed Johnson traded, Geovany Soto too ***UPDATED***

In Transactions by dmick8981 Comments

Reed Johnson has more than likely been traded. He was pulled from tonight's game and was shaking hands in the dugout. More on this later (probably tomorrow morning for me).

UPDATE: Geovany Soto was shaking hands in the dugout and was pulled at the same time. Brett Jackson was pulled from Iowa and would likely be recalled. Can't imagine the Cubs would trade him.

UPDATE 2: Ken Rosenthal tweets that the two deals are separate.

No word on the details yet.

UPDATE 3: It appears Soto may have been traded to the Texas Rangers.

What an awesome inning. Castro and Rizzo are going to be fun to watch going forward. Think Castro will be a 20 HR guy and I think Rizzo will be a 30-40 HR guy..

Who said Garza is back on the block? I’m assuming he never came off of it, but who would trade for him? That would be one huge risk and if Garza’s injury ended up being worse than they thought, that GM will get fired. Can’t imagine any GM taking that risk.

    @ bubblesdachimp:
Why the fuck does a team that’s going to lose 90+games want to re-sign a 41 YO OF? This team needs youth and power, not old, slap-hitting glove merchants.

    @ mb21:

Unreal no word out yet and then the opposite happened on the Dempster deal. Sounds like the front office have buttoned down the hatches and communicating via secret code.

    @ Mercurial Outfielder:

I have no problem with him as a fourth outfielder. He hits lefties. and can play all three spots. If he wants to come back for cheap why not?

Also are we under the impression next years team will be worse then this years?

Any chance Jackson just got called up? Trade Reed for some A-ball nothing, give his roster spot to Jackson.

    @ GBTS:

Very well could have been, and honestly, I don’t know if I’d be terribly upset about it. Those strike outs this year have gotten beyond ridiculous…

While neither of the Cubs players traded today are major contributors at this point, the team has just cut 2 ties to the 2008 team, which is kind of sad/symbolic.

    Wikipedia:

Geovany Soto (born January 20, 1983 in San Juan, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican Major League Baseball catcher for the Texas Rangers.

I’d like to see a real encyclopedia update that fast.

    @ josh:
I can’t get excited for a Soriano trade. No matter what, the Cubs eat a ton of salary and don’t get much in return. That doesn’t mean the Cubs shouldn’t be looking into it, but other teams aren’t fools.

In Z’s first day in the bullpen, he struck out 3 in 1.2 innings and walked none. He also gave up 1 unearned run on 2 hits.
