OV Pic of the Day: Thus Endeth the Winning Streak

In News And Rumors by aisle424261 Comments

So that was fun.  The Cubs won three games in a row just when nobody thought they could.  But then they played an actual major league team.  They had a chance in the ninth inning, but Blake DeWitt struck out on what would have been ball four.  OV, using advanced technology that we have developed in our secret underground labs, was able to capture the moment and determine how DeWitt was fooled by the pitch.

We were thinking about other stuff too.  Like how to spend the money we won’t be spending on Cubs tickets next year.

I agree, but I guess the spray charts said the hitters for which said shift was employed would likely not go that way.

I do like that one of the related articles is “How Bad is Koyie Hill?” Without even mentioning his name, our awesome OV technology knows that we are talking about futility and brought up the best example for our readers.

There’s been so much debate in the comments about who called Walt – Gus or Mike – that I went and asked Vince Gilligan. I don’t view his answer as any kind of spoiler (as it’s info from an episode that’s already aired), but in case you do, don’t read the next short paragraph:

So as it turns out, it wasn’t Mike. And it wasn’t Gus. It was, instead, the new third man in the operation, Tyrus (played by Ray Campbell), whom we saw earlier weighing the batch. And that explains why no one could agree on whether it was Esposito’s voice or Banks’s voice, I suppose.

MO, I heard the Bears and Mike Sims-Walker have a mutual interest. I like him. He’s a big WR that runs good routes. I see the Bears having about a 2-3 year window with this team so they need to make some noise this free agency. WR, CB, DT, Oline.

I think they need to look at Rice, Holmes, Edwards, and maybe even Burress before Sims-Walker. My biggest fear is they sign serial asshat and overrated numpty Roy Williams.

Sanchez sucks with those guys, he’ll be an abomination without them. I like Buress but I think some team will offer him more money than the Bears. If Rice’s hip isn’t an issue, then he should get a serious consideration. I wouldn’t mind Sims-Walker though if those options don’t pan out.

I don’t think the Jays considered Rzepczynski much of a prospect. IIRC, he had some good starts a couple of years ago, got hurt, and has been pretty much a middle reliever since. Zach Stewart (who went to the Sox) was a prospect, but definitely nothing overwhelming there.

It’s too bad they don’t have databases of pitch locations as that low-ish OBP relative to batting average could be explained by the fact that people keep pounding the strike zone on Szczur…just a guess though, I thought he was supposed to be pretty patient and have a good eye and all that good stuff.

I don’t think there was any racial undertone based on what has been reported. It was something like the guy was telling the players they sucked, players were on the field stretching. Byrd walked over and told the guy to take his Cubs jersey off. It sounded to me like it was probably shortly after the gates were opened and quiet enough in the park that the jackass could be easily heard. Can’t blame Marlon although engaging an idiot like that never really ends with satisfaction.

I just wanted to chime in now while I’ll only ruin the first 15 minutes of my time-delayed viewing to say that after listening to Uecker I now think that there shouldn’t be color commentators.

Okay, Uecker’s awesomeness is unusual, but even Cory Provis is fine on his own. When there’s one guy the focus stays on the game, not on the pleasantries of the announcers’ families, golf games, charity events, playing days, sudoku records, hairpieces, cars, favorite foods, etfuckingc. Much as I like Zonk and Ron, I’d prefer to just hear Pat do the call (or even just Zonk!).

He made the game exciting by making the baseball exciting, and pointed out plenty of (baseball) stuff I never would have noticed otherwise.

Provis does a few innings and they chat during the two half-inning crossovers about golf and the usual shit while Ueck is still in the booth. One total inning of that was just about right (especially since Ueck’s funny side shows when there’s a straight man around).

I think networks should just have one guy do PBP and then just bring in their (better) Judd equivalent to shoot the shit for the half-innings that include their round-the-league reports.
I love it that Byrd told the fans that. I wish more players would speak their mind like that. If you tell Marlon Byrd the Cubs suck you are in essence telling him that he sucks. People can’t expect him to sit back and shut up. Well, I guess they can: bleedcubbieblue.com
Yellon would approve because you can only say negative things to people’s faces.

Of course not. There is no racism at Wrigley Field.

Pat and Keith were just talking about save situations and how teams can’t score too much or there won’t be enough save situations.

My initial thought…who the fuck cares? I’d rather bomb the shit out of every opponent every night than worry about who to give save opportunities to!

Maybe Z is working on an endorsement deal with McDonalds. WTF is a grimace for the ages, anyway? What a stupid remark. Now Z can add known grimacer to his rep.
He needs to provide his own offensive support if his teammates won’t chip in. Besides that 2-out single with the bases empty.

Wow…couldn’t see it as clearly on the video replay, but that ankle turned in a way that’s just not natural. I’d be surprised if he isn’t out for a month.

Supposedly the MRI said it wasn’t broken and no ligaments were torn. Just a sprain.

That’s good news. He won’t avoid a DL stint though, methinks.
