I didn't get around to doing a preview for this series so I'm going to link to one that is far better than anything I could have done. SG does fantastic work on RLYW and based on the Oliver projections he's calculated that the Tigers have a 50.3% chance of winning the series. Basically, flip a coin.

My coin landed on its edge. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!

Baez apparently launched another monster HR.

Ugh, when is he going to learn that he needs to move runners over? *shakes head*

Eck doesn’t care how ridiculous he looks. His haircut was good enough in 1975 and it’s good enough now.

One could argue that a monster homer is the best and most stress-free way to move a runner over 🙂

My kingdom for a free live feed of tonight’s baseball match.

Ump isn’t giving Fister the low strike.

I’m surprised the Cubs haven’t made a baserunning mistake or two on a home run. It’s actually quite surprising.

I’m surprised Fister is back out there. That wrist has to hurt like a motherfucker.

Good comment here from MGL in response to something Dave Cameron wrote, but the last line just made me shake my head: http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/is_side_arming_darren_oday_a_lefty_killer/#comments

(dying laughing) MGL is wrong and I didn’t even catch it. O’Day is a righty, not a lefty (dying laughing)

His main point holds, though. It’s too small a sample to use his observed platoon splits.

@ Rizzo the Rat:
Agreed. That’s why I liked about the comment. It’s just way too small a sample to suggest what Cameron did. I think people look at reliever statistics and jump to conclusion without realizing that they can pitch for 3 years before they even pitch a full season that a starter would. And we know how much random variation starters have.
mb21Quote Reply
I’m going to be slightly disappointed if Detroit can’t luck into a run here.

It wouldn’t be fangraphs if someone wasn’t making bold claims with small sample sizes. I wonder that O’Day’s SIERA was in Yankee Stadium night games this year.
BerseliusQuote Reply
That was the shortest triple I’ve ever seen

Cameron just popped up in the thread, completely missing the point of what MGL was complaining about.

I never envisioned that the Yankees would be this bad at offense. I know it’s just one game, but they had the same issues with Baltimore too.
Rice CubeQuote Reply
@ Rice Cube:
Have you considered writing for Fangraphs? I see potential for an article there.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Also just noticed that ALCS stats are reset and separate from ALDS stats, which is just as pointless as not listing regular season stats.

Both the homers against Valverde today were by lefties, of course.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Ichiro is now batting .667 for the series. Because Gameday told me so.
Rice CubeQuote Reply
On the other hand, Gameday says Cano has been absolutely useless in the ALDS so far.

Jeter broke 🙁

@ Rice Cube:
I’d thumbs down this if I could. Jeter out for postseason. Broken ankle.
RC –> sad

mgl is a fucking douchebag.

This sucks for the Yankees. I wonder if we saw Derek Jeter’s last appearance in a MLB game? He’s no spring chicken.

Yes he is. My favorite comment may have been from Sandy Kazmir (number 16):
What? MGL was right so the first part of that I can accept, but the only person being a typical smug prick was MGL and anybody who sees it differently is obviously blind.
