JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 7-16-13

Very few teams played, as this is the ASB for AA and AAA.  Boise Hawks 3 @ Hillsboro Hops 0 The Hawks didn't have a lot of offense here, but they didn't need it. Daniel Lockhart, Jacob Rogers, and Lance Rymel each had a pair of singles; Rymel added a walk. The only XBH was a double by light-hitting Carlos Penalver. Yasiel Balaguert, probably …

I watched the HR derby (well, the first round of it) yesterday. It's so much better on mute. Jupiter Hammerheads 8 @ Daytona Cubs 4 What is the sound of no fans watching? It's really hard to get interested about this team these days now that Baez and Soler are gone. Zeke DeVoss had a nice one, with a home run …

Albuquerque 5 @ Iowa 1 (18 innings) Both Jake Arrieta and Jeffry Antigua had "starts" in this one. Arrieta allowed 1 in 6, fanning 9. Antigua allowed none in 6, but only struck one out. Offensively, scoring 1 run in 18 innings is clearly not good for the stat line. Ty Wright did go 2-6 with 2 walks, though. Logan Watkins doubled, as did Junior Lake.  Jupiter …

Catcher There are 2 catchers I'd definitely take. Yadier Molina is going to be my …

Today that didn't happen because I was very busy all day. It'll probably happen again tomorrow. Perhaps someday this will actually be my job, but I'm probably several years away from …

The Babe Ruth Lineal Champion

I was bored today, so I invented something: the Lineal Championship. It's easy; take a player that led his team in WAR for any year, and follow that player every year until he DOESN'T lead the team in WAR anymore (a caveat: only positional players. You could do something similar for pitchers, or include them in your calculations, but I …

Iowa Cubs 0 @ New Orleans Zephyrs 9 Logan Watkins was cursed by Berselius yesterday. He went 0-4. Ty Wright had a double. Junior Lake struck out twice, but walked. He played RF. J.C. Boscan walked and struck out. Anthony Giansanti is pinch-hitting a lot, and he's good at it. He went 1-1 for the 4th time in a row. Jake Arrieta really sucked. In 3.2 innings, …
