Iowa Game 1

I'm sorely tempted to just post links to this shitty team anymore now that everyone of interest is gone. But in all fairness to the Greg of Rohan he was awesome going 3-5 and raising his average to .359.

Game 2

Nothing happened.

Smokies

Logan Watkins is a pretty salty player who just might be able to push for a starting job someday. Last night he went 1-2 with 3 walks and 2 stolen bases. What I like about him is that usually he finds a way to be productive every game He's sporting a .381 OBP and a .785 OPS. Look for him in Iowa next year. Junior Lake was 2-4 and stole his 18th base as well. With Castro in the bigs and Baez coming up from behind it will be interesting to see what the Cubs do with Lake this year. He hasn't had a bad season by any means and is young but doesn't have near the upside as the guys ahead of him. Yoannis Negrin a Cuban signed last year made his debut and the 28 year old struck out 4 in 5 scoreless innings.

Peoria

Jorge Soler was 1-3 with a walk and has been much more patient at the plate than I thought he would be. Zeke DeVoss continues his late season surge hitting 2-4 with a BB and his 34th stolen base of the year. After his big out last time Starling Peralta was much more like Starling Peralta working 6 IP and giving up 3 ER while walking 5 and striking out 2.

Boise

Xavier Batista had a big night hitting a pair of HR's he was joined by C Wilson Contreas who 2-4 with a HR of his own.

AZL

Albert Almora was 2-3 with a BB and after a semi slow start has his average up to .304. Shawon Dunston drew 3 walks and has a pretty decent walk rate but not much else behind it. Like Junior Lake he has a lot of talented OF's ahead of him so he will need to keep improving to standout in the crowd. 2012 pick Ryan McNeil gave up 1 ER in 2 IP.

Smokies

Matt Szczur had a big game hitting 1-3 with a HR, BB and SB. Jae Hoon Ha is back from a scary head injury and walked 4 times which is nice to see. Nick Struck worked 7 innings and struck out 7 batters and Lendy Castillo worked 1 inning in his continuing recovery from a bullshit made up injury.

Daytona Game 1

John Andreoli stole his 49th base of the year. Rob Whitenack continues to suck. That is all

Game 2

Kyle Hendricks worked 3 innings and struck out 3 while allowing a solo HR. Javier Baez drew a walk.

Peoria

Zeke DeVoss was 2-3 with a BB and his 5th HR of the year. Hopefully he can finish strong.

Boise

Dan Vogelbach. What more can be said? The guy has 5 HR's in 4 games. He's just a beast. He is just 2 HR's behind the Northwest League leader (a 22 yr old 1B) despite having about 150 less AB's. Top 100 prospect heading into next year or the system is broken. Tayler Scott continues to be the best pitcher in Boise as he struck out 6 in 5 IP while allowing a pair of runs.

Iowa

Do any of you really care how Alfredo Amezaga is doing? I don't.

Smokies

Junior Lake went 2-4 with a double. Nobody else did shit.

Daytona

Rain

Peoria

Peoria played a 14 inning shit fest that was highlighted by Yao Ling Wang's continuing dominance on the mound. Last night Wang struck out 10 batters over 6 IP allowing only a solo HR. Wang now has 68 K's in 57.1 IP and is holding opponents to a .218 BA. He is now our top pitching prospect imho.

Boise

Gioskar Amaya can do it all. Last night he stole home for his 11th steal of the year in addition to going 1-3 with a BB. On the power side Dan Vogelbach hit his 3rd HR in as many days and in my opinion should be a top 100 prospect heading into next year. If you are a bat only 1B you have to really hit to matter and Vogelbach has certainly done that as he has 11 HR's in 157 pro AB's. Rock Shoulders hit a grand slam out of the entire stadium last night which is also cool.

AZL

Dillon Maples struck out 3 batters in 2 scoreless innings of work. According to every AZ players twitter account Albert Almora made the greatest over the shoulder catch EVER! And Jorge Soler is getting talk of a call up despite hitting .241.

Iowa

Ty'Relle Harris struck out 5 in 6 IP. New Cub Jaye Chapman struck out both batters that he faced.

Smokies

Jacob Brigham channeled the spirit of Geraldo Concepcion giving up 6 ER while retiring 1 batter. He has now given up 8 ER in 3.2 IP since joining the Cubs. Szczur was 1-4 with a BB.

Daytona

Javier Baez finally had a nice game in High A hitting 2-4 and driving in 3 runs. John Andreoli stole 3 bases giving him a season total of 47. Austin Kirk worked 5.2 IP giving up 1 run and striking out 3.

Peoria

The story of the night was Starling Peralta who struck out 14 batters in 7 innings. He walked no one and only gave up 2 hits one of which was a solo HR. Peralta usually sits in the low 90's and has never really shown much in the way of production so this is probably just a nice game that will be the highlight of his career. On the hitting side Zeke DeVoss was 4-4 with a pair of doubles a triple and a SB. I had high hopes for DeVoss coming into the year but he has really struggled in Peoria and is only hitting .239.

Boise

Like most nights it was the Gioskar Amaya/Dan Vogelbach show. Amaya 2-5 with his 10th triple of the season. 10 triples in 186 AB's. Thats pretty good. Amaya now has a .913 OPS. Vogelbach contributed with a 1-3 effort including his 3rd HR since joining Boise. He also drew a walk. Vogelbach's bat is way advanced for the low levels so lets hope he is getting his glovework together because other than that this kid should be in Peoria.

AZL

Jorge Soler went 1-4 with a BB and a pair of stolen bases. He now has 8 on the year. Albert Almora also swiped two bags and got one hit in 5 AB's. The pitching was impressive with Ryan McNeil striking out 4 in 2.1 IP. Loiger Padron finished the game out working the final 3 IP and striking out 3 while shutting down the other team.

Iowa

Tony Campana walked once and stole two bases. That is all.

Smokies

Spellcheck Jr was 2-5 and stole his 2nd base in AA since his promotion. Logan Watkins drew three walks and now has an OBP of .373. Junior Lake hit his 8th HR of the year. The Smokies faced top pitching prospect Taijuan Walker who allowed 1 ER in his 4 innings of work.

Peoria

Peoria is a lot like Iowa right in terms of not a lot of talent left. Chadd Krist scored twice off a pair of walks and has shown a pretty good plate eye between Boise/Peoria. Always nice to have a C who can provide something on offense as well.

Boise

Gioskar Amaya continues his excellent 2012 season, last night he went 3-5 with his 6th HR to dead CF. Rock Shoulders was 3-5 and Dan Vogelbach had the rare off day.

AZL

Jorge Soler was 1-4 with a BB. He now has 5 BB to 10 K's t hrough 46 AB's. Pierce Johnson was back on the mound and worked two scoreless innings while collecting a pair of strikeouts.

Iowa

There isn't anyone left in Iowa to write about so lets just say Casey Coleman had a good start. Also, Esmalin Caridad should be back up in the pen. He has been very tough this year.

Smokies

Trey McNutt struck out 3 and allowed 1 ER in 3 IP. I thought they would keep this guy in 1 inning situations to see how he responded to that role but if anything it seems he is getting stretched back out.

Daytona

Javier Baez got the clown shoes. He struck out 3 times giving him a total of 5 K's in 8 AB's. Christian Villanueva was 2-4 and John Andreoli stole his 44th base of the year.

Peoria

Michael Jensen had a nice start. Jensen worked 5 IP allowing 1 ER and striking out 4. Al Yellon was in attendance and wrote what I consider, to be, the most, tortured, (sentence of English, which is a language) of all, time,. This is Yellon describing Jensen's start: "He threw five very nice innings, holding Clinton to five hits and a run, and striking out four. He might have gone further than that, but something you'll see at this level, showing the difference in ability, dropped foul popups, extended at bats that should have produced outs."

Boise

Dan Vogelbach was 1-5 with a BB and the game winning HR. Vogelbach now has 9 HR's and an OPS over 1.000 over two levels so far this year. He's every bit the hitter that we heard about after last years draft. Trey Martin went 3-4 with at triple and is hitting .279. Vogelbach wasn't the only Hawk going deep as C Lance Rymel went 2-4 with a pair of dongers.

AZL

Duane Underwood got lit up failing to make it out of the 1st inning. Underwood gave up 3 hits and 3 ER including a HR and only retired one batter. On the hitting side Ben Carhart was 2-4 and looked stylish in his work coat while doing it.

The Children Are The Future-Cubs Minor League Update Sponsored by Elmer’s Glue

Iowa

Brett Jackson had another Brett Jackson kind of game going 1-4 with and walk, SB and strikeout. Vitters was 3-5 with his 5th SB of the year and got his BA back up to .300. No idea if these two are heading up for tonights game vs the Angels but Chris DeLuca was speculating that it might be the case.

Smokies

Logan Watkins got two hits in 4 AB's last night including his 5th HR of the year. Watkins will probably be heading up to Iowa next season and still looks to be a decent prospect for a utility kind of role. Zach Rosscup threw 5 innings and allowed 1 ER while striking out 4 and walking 2. New Cub Jake Brigham had a rough outing giving up 2 ER in 3 IP. He walked 3 and struck out 2 batters.

Daytona

Not a bad start for Christian Villanueva, in his first game as a Cub he hit two home runs and drew a a walk. Ronald Torreyes continues his revival going 2-3 with his 6th HR and drawing a walk of his own. He has a .900 OPS over the last two months. AJ Morris threw two shutout innings in relief.

Peoria

Dustin Geiger is locked in at the plate. A day after hitting two HR's and driving in eight batters Geiger hit his 14th HR and collected two other hits for fun. 2012 pick Bijan Rademacher went 2-4 and is now hitting .277 since his arrival in Peoria.

Boise

Got the shit kicked out of them 15-1. They committed 6 errors. Vogelbach went 2-4 as the DH so he was the only one who showed up to play.

AZL

2012 pick Ryan McNeil struck out 2 in 2 IP to earn his first career win. Soler was 1-4 with a double and 4 of his first 11 hits have been XBH.

The Children Are The Future-Cubs Minor League Update Sponsored by KFC

Iowa

The Greg Of Rohan celebrated his arrival to a more age appropriate level by hitting 2 HR's in 4 AB's. Rohan is 26 so he's probably the new Brad Fucking Snyder! but still he has 19 HR's this year across three levels. Brett Jackson did Brett Jackson things hitting 3-5 with a triple and a strikeout. Yesterday rumor was that the Cubs brass is going to meet with Dale and that Brett & Vitters might be on their way up. Personally I'm not a fan of it I think both need a full season in AAA. Let them finish out August then bring them up. Actually, what the hell do I know? Just call em up. Vitters btw was 1-3 wtih a BB and his 16th HR of the season.

Smokies Game 1

Is Trey McNutt starting or relieving? Does anybody know anymore? Last night he pitched 3 innings giving up 1 ER and striking out 2. Maybe we are just prepping him to be the swing arm and a younger version of Rodrigo Lopez.

Game 2

Dallas Beeler & Brian Schlitter combined for a 7 inning shutout and Justin Bour hit a solo HR which was the only run scored.

Daytona

Lendy Castillo is heading back after his bought with David Patton disease. Last night he started and went 4 allowing 3 hits and striking out 4 batters. Torreyes was 2-3 with a walk and has been outstanding over his last 200 AB's.

Peoria

Dustin Geiger hit 2 HR's yesterday and drove 8 men in. Geiger has 13 HR's on the year but is sporting a .307 OBP. Baez was 2-5 with a 2B.

Boise

Xavier Batista has been pretty worthless this season but last night he picked up 2 doubles and his first HR. Both Vogelbach and Candelario hit 2-5 and Vogelbach is now hitting .355. It's encouraging to see him bat as well as he has this year. You would think he will get the starting job in Peoria next season.

AZL Game 1

Albert Almora finally had a nice game collecting 3 hits in 4 AB's and stealing his 2nd base of the season. Jorge Soler is showing off some good speed so far and swiped 3 bags including home. He had 2 hits in 4 AB's. Pierce Johnson made his professional debut last night giving up a pair of hits in his 1 IP but keeping the other team off the scoreboard.

Game 2

Jorge Soler drew two walks in 3 AB's and scored both times he got on. Soler now has 4 BB's to 8 K's in 38 AB's this season. Some guy from the DSL named Loiger Padron struck out 6 guys in 3 IP to earn the W.
