Avoid Being Average

There was a tweet from Marquee’s Tony Andracki (cool dude) that probably caused several aneurysms the other day, and Brad on Twitter attempted to put it into context:

If we assume that Seiya Suzuki takes a step forward after an adjustment year and Cody Bellinger can at least find some kind of a groove, then it does look a bit better. However, I’m still not thrilled with having to rely on “what ifs” even if the run environment did change because pitchers are just filthy and more difficult to hit than ever. There is an opportunity for the Cubs to add, and while the radio silence on the big gets is a bit frustrating, I’m hopeful that the next time I post some new shit, it’ll be because there’s a super team in the making. Next year’s free agent class is relatively bare, so the time to add is now. I suppose the Cubs could rely on solid pitching to sneak in a few wins and stay in contention by the trade deadline, but why do that when you can make your team better now? Am I just being narrow-minded?

Honestly, the reason why I held off on writing more was because I really thought some more big deals would be announced sooner, but this slow stuff is annoying. They really should have a winter trade deadline to force roster decisions sooner so they can just focus on throwing money at good players.

The Mets now have a payroll approaching $350MM and that’s only because Senga apparently only wanted 5 years at $15MM AAV. If the Cubs could/would not match it, reasons:

    1. Crane and Tom lying about how much money they could throw around
    2. Cubs can’t convince anyone they’re good enough to play for yet
    3. All available dollars earmarked for the other usual suspects, in which case they better god damn sign someone(s) of note

    Rice Cube,

I mean, it’s New York. A lot of people, given the choice, are going to want to live there regardless of how good the team is. He’d better not suck, though.

Can confirm. I obviously make way less than baseball players, but I can’t conceive of a dollar amount that would get me to live in Chicago over New York.

    Rice Cube,

Yeah there’s nothing wrong with Chicago – I grew up there and tried it for a couple years as an adult and ended up hating it for myself. It’s like…ground zero for a lot of things that harm my mental health, so I pretty much stay away now. It has a lot to offer to people with less baggage specific to the town.

New York’s the best place in the US, but it’s definitely not cheap. It’s home, though.

If you save that particular image to your hard drive and then upload it to the website here in the backend, you could use it in .gif format from that point forward.

I think some websites fix their links so embedding on sites like this are impossible and that way they force you their own sites and can then get advertising dollars out of the extra impressions.

People always want more money. (dying laughing)
