Confirmed Ryan Dempster is coming to the Braves.Still trying to confirm details but Delgado could be on the other end of the deal
— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) July 23, 2012
No word yet on who is coming, but Randall Delgado would be a pretty decent return for Ryan Dempster. This post will be updated as more information is available.
UPDATE: still not sure who it is, but Delgado was the 46th ranked prospect by Baseball America entering the season. Sickels had him rated as a B+ prospect. He had dropped out of BA's top 50 since he was no longer a prospect. If this is what the Cubs get, it's hard to complain about this trade. I'm sure someone will though.
UPDATE 2: Delgado was ranked 3rd in the Braves organization by Baseball America entering 2012 and he was also 3rd in Sickels' ratings.
UPDATE 3: MLB.com is confirming that Dempster has been traded, but they also don't know what the Cubs are getting in return.
UPDATE 4: Keith Law is reporting that Delgado is included in the deal.
Filed to ESPN – if the Dempster trade is completed, Randall Delgado is in it, as well as something to balance the money

You gotta like the deal.

If there’s someone else coming along with Demp, no obvious holes for the Braves other than Pastornicky at SS. He’s not very good, but he’s also young. Maybe Barney could play some SS there too.

I’m happy for him. The Braves seem like a good place to land.

Could a mid-range Cubs prospect be going to Atlanta to balance it out?

law confirms Delgado.

@ Aisle424:
Probably not. I think Dempster for Delgado is a fair deal assuming the Cubs are sending the Braves money. A grade B pitcher is $7.3 million so say it’s $9 million or so for B+. Delgado has only been OK so his stock has dropped a little bit though there’s still as much potential as ever. The Cubs might get a little more value in return than they gave up, but I don’t think it’s all that much. Then again, we don’t know what else went to either team (including money). If it’s player for player and the Cubs don’t pay any salary they got one hell of a deal.

Nice deal, especially considering Dempster was barely worth a salary dump heading into this season.

@ GW:
Oh. I read it as Dempster = Delgado, Dempster + Money = Delgado + (something to balance)

Ya Kap, I’m sure Keith Law confirms things without a “great source”.
Law: “Well I heard from the bat boy who spoke with the janitor who cleans Theo’s office that he overheard the deal.”
jtsunamiQuote Reply
@ jtsunami:
FWIW Law hedged it with “if the deal happens”. Could just mean that Delgado is in the deal but it hasn’t been agreed to.
BerseliusQuote Reply
@ jtsunami:
It is possible that Kap’s source is either Purple Sweatshirt guy or Nick Cafardo.

Out of curiosity, are you seriously telling me that if someone here said Delgado from the Braves for Dempster when you poste your trade value thing that you wouldn’t have said we’d be extremely disappointed?
Doogolas42483Quote Reply
@ WaLi:
cubs should send dempster some cash, too, because there’s no way he nets delgado without his sparkly, babip-driven era.
GWQuote Reply
@ Doogolas42483:
what’s the question?
GWQuote Reply
kg now saying it’s not done yet
GWQuote Reply
he’s guessing they are waiting for mlb to sign off on the money
GWQuote Reply
@ GW:
The question is, had someone said Delgado, am I wrong to think that whomever said it would have been told they’d be very disappointed?
Doogolas42483Quote Reply
now Ryan Dempster says no trade. In all caps
