I remember when people were talking about Hammel as a possible All-Star candidate. That was, like, twenty home runs ago.

Is Tommy La Stella a wedding DJ or something? That’s the only thing I can think of when I hear his walk-up music.

Markakis hits a homer. Francoeur draws a walk. Harrell pitches shutout baseball. This game has everything.

I miss when the Cubs used to score runs. That was fun.

The All Star Break and Fowler’s return have to help though, right? They have to be gassed playing this many games in a row, especially with all the injuries.

If Matheny were managing this team, he would have tossed a small nuke at the opposing dugout after those HBPs

I like this kind of revenge better.

Unbelievable. Very few do more than Nick Markakis to not hit home runs. And somehow the Cubs give up two to him. Smh.

This fucking bullshit is never going to end.I didn’t sign up to watch the 2014 A’s this year.

Maybe we can get Jeff Samardzija for Addison Russell.

Well, it’s taken quite a bit of losing to get me worried, but here we are. Feels like I’m finally home.

Too swamped to write recaps/previews right now, but this image I randomly found last week still feels appropriate

I have a bad feeling the Cubs are going to get swept.

I think they win Saturday’s game and lose on Sunday. I also think that between Arrieta and Liriano, 10 batters get walked tonight. So it could go either way.

anyone else surprised to see that BA ranked gleybar over happ?

No, not really. Shortstops tend to be favored over 2nd basemen. For good reason I think. Despite the awful start, Torres is having a great season and has improved on last year in the most important areas (walks, power). There’s a ton to like with Torres, but I think you could also easily make an argument that Happ is the top prospect in this system (assuming we exclude Contreras). The real question mark was how any of these people put Torres ahead of Contreras prior to this season. That was baffling.

EnricoPallazzo: pretty sure BN luke was one of the only guys i saw who put contreras at #1 so good call by luke

I’m not sure many people really grasped what was possibly happening with Contreras. The Cubs left him unprotected in the Rule 5 before his breakout so they certainly had no clue either, but after last year, he was easily a top 10 prospect in my opinion. You’ve got a catcher who by all accounts was average to better than that behind the plate and potentially a great hitter. There aren’t many great hitting catchers and there are even fewer of them who can also field the position well enough to not be a liability. There was still a lot that could go wrong, but as far as potential goes, which is what all these lists are about, Contreras had as much as almost any prospect entering this season.
