Not a bad episode by any means, but the worst of season 5b. Nothing major happens, just putting the pieces in place for the final act. So Hank and Jesse are a team now, didn’t see that happening. Skyler is all in too, with her saying go ahead and kill Jesse. The only innocent character left is Jr.

That was my first thought, but he was telling Hank there’s a better way to get Walt. What could that possibly be? They had him tonight if Jesse didn’t freak out. Jesse had good reason to freak out though.
If Jesse’s really clever they can set something up that makes it look like Jesse is taking all the credit for Heisenberg’s accomplishments. That’s certainly something Walt’s pride can’t swallow.
Jesse basically told Walt that he was going after his family, but would he really? I think he is just trying to get Walt riled up, for what, I don’t know.

I’ve heard this theory, but I can’t see this plan accomplishing anything. What’s supposed to happen? Jesse announces he’s Heisenberg and Walt steps up and says, “No he’s not! I am!”? It may hurt Walt’s pride a little, but I don’t see him giving himself up. (I also find it hard to see Jesse going after Walt’s children, who are innocent of the matter.)

I don’t see Walt turning himself in. He was more than willing, if necessary, to say that Hank was Heisenberg. I think he’d be a bit hurt if Jesse took credit, but I don’t think he’d go turn himself in. I agree about the children. Everything we’ve learned about Jesse says there’s no way he’s going to hurt Walt’s children.
Honestly, I have no idea what his plan is. If Jesse just took his own advice (whatever you’re thinking, Walt will do the exact reverse opposite), they’d have had Walt in cuffs by the end of the episode.

Not that I agree with that theory, but that sounds exactly like Walt.
I feel like something happens where Walt calls off the hit on Jesse, but Todd’s uncle goes ahead and kills him anyways for whatever reason, and that machine gun is for Walt to avenge Jesse’s death.
No idea who the ricin is for though. Maybe Skylar orders Jesses death over Walt’s objection.

What leads Walt to change his name/identity? My theory is that he really needs a new dust filter for his Hoover MaxExtract Pressure Pro model 60, and confusion ensues.

That’s been the case for quite a while now. He won’t place a call to the vacuum cleaner repairman until something big happens to convince him the jig is up.
I think Jesse goes after Walt by letting himself get killed. Pretty much the whole episode was about Walt not wanting to hurt Jesse, Hank laying bare the facts behind their relationship, Walt refusing to entertain the obvious solution with both Saul and Marie, and Walt seeming to treat his own son with the bluster and tone that he’d do better to reserve for his business associates. Walt’s apparent reversal at the end of the episode undercuts that a bit, but everything is pointed in that direction.
Not sure how injecting Todd the notorious fuckup into the situation is going to play out, though.
They did do a good job of letting each and every character completely shred any notion of goodness they had left, didn’t they? Pure poison.
Unrelated: anyone else having trouble logging in? I enter my username and password but am still a guest even after I submit the info.
The first couple episodes this (half-)season had me wondering what role Lydia would play, but she’s disappeared since then. I’m sure she’ll be back for some reason, though.
