dmick89: Agreed. I’d been hoping Contreras would get a chance to catch Arrieta. Will be nice for the playoffs to have Contreras back behind the plate when he pitches.

How could Contreras be back behind the plate while at the same time pitching?

If Arrieta is comfortable with Contreras catching him, what are the odds Montero gets left off the postseason roster?

    dmick89,

I’d probably like it better if Maddon weren’t playing a lineup loaded with RHBs against a RHP.

If they win by eleven runs again, maybe we should conclude that anti-matchups are the new market inefficiency.

Len says the lineup is because Davies has reverse splits with his changeup. Then he acknowledges that lefties have better numbers against him (much better, in fact). Oh well.

Doesn’t seem like Davies is fooling anyone.

EDIT: Save for the ump. That’s not a strike. But that probably was, so…

Now that Myles isn’t as in love with Addison Russell as he was early in the season, he’s really picking up his offense. Up to a .319 wOBA before today which is slightly above average for SS. He’s up to a 2.8 fWAR on the season. He’s at a .331 wOBA in the 2nd half.

Heh—Szczur’s flyout in the first had the same exit velocity and nearly the same distance as Bryant’s homerun.

Szczrzrczr is the perfect lead off hitter against Davies because of his reverse reverse hitting splits against Davies’ reverse reverse change up fastball splits.

It’s a big game of Uno and Joe holds the deck.

So I can control player performance with my comments?

    JonKneeV,

Addy just switched to a different size of panty hose, one that wasn’t quite so, ummmm, confining.

Getting to point out his increased production to Myles is just a happy side benefit.

    Edwin,

Surely the Cubs have metrics on the zones that various umps have and will use that at least in part to determine whether to play Montero in playoffs, right?

Just like no one should be allowed to drive when robot cars are feasible, no ump should be allowed to call balls and strikes—fuck the human element.

I would like for the Cubs to pay back Colorado and San Diego in kind for earlier in the year. I am not too greedy, I only want series wins…via sweeps…on a nine game road trip. Is that too much to ask?

@cerulean, is 1577 the highest ELO in Cubs history? I seem to remember you saying something about the 1570 range. They’re at 1577 after today’s win.

The Reds are really hot right now. Or I should say, Votto is ridiculously hot and is carrying the Reds on his back.

Weird that this is the second year in a row Votto failed to make the All-Star team and went on to post ridiculous numbers anyway.

If I said that, probably I meant in our lifetimes. 1906 held the Elo in MLB history at 1636 (the Cubs—there was another that was higher, but I don’t think it should count). But that number is separate from the yearly Elo on that age. The currently sit at 1569 in the historical Elo ratings, still off their high on the year.
