Cubs 2, Brewers 0 (4.29.18)

OSS: Cubs sweep the Brewers out of Chicago with stellar pitching and defense.

Three up:

  1. Tyler Chatwood had his best game on the mound as a Cub today, shutting out the Brewers over seven innings with just two hits and three walks, striking out four. He even helped himself with an RBI single in the fifth inning. All told, the Cubs starters gave up zero earned runs in 27 innings in this series.
  2. Addison Russell had the biggest hit of the day, a leadoff triple in the fifth that led to the Cubs first and eventual winning run. He also singled in the Cubs mini-rally in the second inning that was ended by a bases clogged groundout by Chatwood and knocked in the second run on a sac fly in the sixth that I missed due to connection issues :|. Now that more Cubs bats have heated up a bit and the Cubs don't desparately need Zobrist's bat in the lineup, some of that Machado talk could cool off a bit.
  3. Morrow and Edwards shut the door once again. Their combined line on the season: 23.1 IP, 13 H, 1 R, 8 BB, 32 K, 0.39 ERA. Not too shabby.

Three Zero down:

I'm not going to complain about anything following a four game sweep of a division rival.

Next up: The Cubs face off with the Rockies again in a three game series. It kicks off with Kyle Freeland taking on Jon Lester at 6:05 CT tomorrow.

I’m not entirely sure what started it, but Brewers Twitter must have done something bad to get so supremely flamed by Cubs Twitter.

OK, I’ve read this a dozen times and I’m still confused. 2 is the fewest runs they’ve given up in a four-game series since 1973, when they gave up… 3???

I have decided that I don’t like being a fan of a team that doesn’t always disappoint*. So I am starting a Brewers Blog and I need some help on a name:

    ConsolingCraig.com
    Brerrors.com
    LamentNations.com

Some unrediscredited feedback would be appreciated.

*The hapless Cubs won the World Series. Fucking sellouts. (Also, Happless.)

    cerulean,

Judging from the last series at Miller Park, the Brewers don’t know much about selling out.

As bad as the Cubs have been in the first 25 games of the season, they have won 60% of their games. That’s a 97–65 pace.

(Though it should be noted that half of their wins — rounding down — have been against the Milwaukee Goose Eggs, so they are going to have to play better against other teams.)

Not a fan of the NFL Draft this year…

    CHI
Love the Roquan, Daniels, Miller and Fitts picks. If healthy, that’s at least four starters.

    GB
Alexander, Jackson and Moore are great. Looney is a really nice pickup for the DL later on. Plus, they netted an extra 1 next year. I’ll pretend they didn’t draft the second best punter available…

    SF
I’m OK with drafting an OT that’s not as good as the one they would soon trade. I’m OK with the Dante Pettis pick (most obvious). I like the Fred Warner pick. Moore and James are interesting. That’s about the best I can say. Not a fan of them passing on an athletic EDGE because he might be prone to injury (Sweat) over a less talented EDGE that’s currently injured (Street).

    Tyrone,

I felt like Bears draft was good. Didn’t like passing on so many EDGE players and settling on Fitts in the 6th. Time will tell I guess. I wonder how much input Fangio had in the draft. If Fangio didn’t want Sweat, I get it but I don’t understand how Pace took Joel Iggy over Sweat. That shit pissed me off. But I like the first 3 picks for sure.

    Tyrone,

I’m happy with the GB draft, even though their success at actually developing corners (and keeping the few that are worth a damn) is pretty spotty. Definitely very happy with the extra pick next year.

    Matt Maiocco @MaioccoNBCS
GM John Lynch identified Mike McGlinchey, Derwin James and Sony Michel as the most impressive of his interviews. On passing up James with #49ers first pick, Lynch said, “That was a hard one.”

    Yeah, for me too.

    Mucker,

Fitts’ athleticism is off the charts. If he’s healthy, he’s a good option. Sweat’s injury must’ve really freaked some teams out (it was pretty bad, BTW. Basically broke his leg in half).

And a lot of people thought Daniels would go in the first.
