OSS: Kris Bryant provides all the fireworks in this 2-0 victory.
Three Up
1. Kris Bryant ended his seemingly months-long road homerless streak with a 2-run jack in the first. It was the only runs of the game, but it was all that was needed.
2. Starlin Castro has been really good since his demotion. Though he had an error in this game, the new 2B had 3 hits from the 5 hole, including a double.
3. Dexter Fowler is sneakily underrated. He might be the best player on the team since the All-Star Break, but because he’s ancient by this team’s standards (29 years old), he gets no pub. He went 3-5 with a double as well.
Three Down
1. Kyle Schwarber has really struggled lately. The high fastball is just eating him up recently, and he isn’t laying off of it. It was folly to expect Schwarber to be all-World right out of the gate, but it would be nice to see him adjust back in time for the playoffs.
2. Addison Russell had a good game defensively, but when you’re the only player on the starting lineup not to get a hit, you end up on this list.
3. There’s a water shortage in California right now, and I heard rumors that Cubs players emptied entire coolers of the stuff on the ground for no good reason yesterday. That’s a shameful, shameful act, and I won’t stand for it.
