OSS: Against all odds, the Cubs pull one out late on the west coast.
Three up:
- Nico Hoerner hit a go-ahead triple in the 10th inning, scoring the Manfred Man to put the Cubs ahead for the first time. It was a solid game overall for Nico at the plate, where he went 3-5.
- Shota Imanaga had another solid start despite a postage-stamp sized strike zone from home plate umpire Nic Lentz. He struck out seven and allowed just one run, more on that below
- Last night, the bullpen was utter pants, but they were nails today, throwing five scoreless innings with just one hit and one (intentional) walk. So I guess the Cubs bullpen experience is just like walking around with a bunch of very sharp nails in your pocket.
- Bonus: this is the last Cubs PDT night game until like August.
Three down:
- There was more Cubes defense on display tonight; this time two consecutive dropped foul popups ahead of the Machado solo shot.
- The Cubs were 0-13 with RISP before extra innings, and it felt like they stranded about 30 batters on base. Just paying homage to Cubs west coast trips past, I guess.
- Speaking of self-inflicted wounds, if Boog manages to slip a couple of doses of laxatives into Sutcliffe’s coffee tomorrow my respect for him will rise greatly.
Next up:
The Cubs go for the series win tomorrow at 3:10 CT. Matthew Boyd takes on Nick Pivetta. With today’s win the Cubs have already guaranteed that this won’t be a losing west coast trip, so pop the champagne.

I’m only one time zone away and it still stinks! (dying laughing)

If Boog follows your advice, I think they should ask Tyler Colvin to do color. Tyler and Cubs fans can sympathize with each other since he had a shard of wood get under his ribs, and our having to listen to Sut is like having shards of wood under our fingernails.

Makes me wonder about the quality of AL teams now, given how they’re faring against NLC teams so far

Rice Cube,
I guess the Yankees did destroy the Brewers early on though, that was fun at least
Rice CubeQuote Reply
The Cubs, for example, currently have a better record than any team in the AL, which probably doesn’t say much, but is still fun to say
