Cubs 2025 Promotional Schedule

In Major League Baseball, Other Topics by Rice Cube89 Comments

The Cubs are making single game tickets available for purchase soon, on February 21 (which happens to be the day after the Cactus League opener), and there’s currently a presale lottery you can sign up for if you care about these things. My usual plan is to decide which game(s) I attend based on available funds and also the promotional schedule, which was actually just released. The Cubs opener happens to be on April 4 against the Padres, so there’s some time to plan and you can check out the rest of the schedule here. You can also peruse the promo schedule but I thought I’d look at some stuff I personally think are fun…

APRIL

  • Saturday, April 19 — Against the Diamondbacks, you might snag a PCA bobblehead where his helmet can fly off (I am unsure if it fits on his head, but then again it’s not like the on-field helmet he wears is the best fit either since it never stays on anyway)!
  • Saturday, April 26 — Hosting the Phillies, you can get a Clark the Cub bobblehead where he’s a giant bear on top of the Wrigley scoreboard.

MAY

  • Throughout this month, which I think is interesting given the whole “anti-DEI” thing going around, the Cubs have a few heritage items, though I think May is only Asian Heritage Month as the Hispanic Heritage Month is in September.
  • Friday, May 30 — There’s a cool quarter zip that only the folks in the bleachers will get.
  • Saturday, May 31 — Then the next day, also in the series against the Reds, there’s a funny Dansby Swanson flow headband that looks like an unruly toupee.

JUNE

  • Sunday, June 1 — This does mean we get a Friday the 13th this month, and this giveaway to end the Reds series (lots of fun things this series!) is a Shota Imanaga at his locker bobblehead!
  • Friday, June 13 — Speaking of Friday the 13th, against the Pirates, the bleacher bums get an umbrella hat.
  • Friday, June 20 — If you are a fan of the new alternate baby blue Cubs uniforms, they’re giving those away in this game against the Mariners.
  • Sunday, June 22 — Another bobblehead, this time of Michael Busch.

JULY

  • Thursday, July 3 — This one against Cleveland has a Bluetooth speaker that will probably break in a week, but it’s a nice thought.
  • Monday, July 21 — Against the Royals, and ironic since I have never seen a pet day at Wrigley Field, like, ever, they’re giving away Cubs themed pet toys.

AUGUST

  • Sunday, August 3 — Hosting the Orioles, which I may actually try to go to since my friend in the area is an O’s fan, there is a Greg Maddux slip-n-slide bobblehead.
  • Tuesday, August 5 — The Reds are back in town, and this close to the start of the school year, they’re giving away back to school backpacks if you happen to have the special event ticket offer.

SEPTEMBER

  • They’ve been showing all kind of special ticket offer and theme game caps and T-shirts, and there’s another heritage item, this time for Greek heritage. I guess the Ricketts aren’t as gung ho against DEI as their leader, eh?
  • Tuesday, September 23 — If you do have this ticket offer for Oktoberfest, you can get a pretty cool beer stein as the Cubs battle the Mets.

Now to actually get a job so I can actually afford to go to a game or two.

I’d love the Cubs to get Bregman. I also don’t want them to be constrained on extending Tucker, who would be better to have over the long term.

Mostly I want them to stop pinching pennies like a small market team, though.

So if the news guys are right…

    Cubs offered 4 years, $120MM

Bregman took Red Sox offer of 3 years, same money, but with some funky maneuvering and deferrals

    🤷🏻‍♂️

I guess today I learned that Andre Dawson was good enough defensively to warrant some hardware in his Cubs years

I’m glad to see the Ricketts Cheap take has broken contain from Cubs fandom. I feel like I’ve seen multiple national writers talking about this in the past week or so.

That said I’m still kind of confused as to why Bregman was a fit for the Cubs, when they could have thrown some money at a SP instead.

Jeebus, just saw this in Calcaterra’s newsletter. Fuck cancer.

Bobby Jenks has Stage 4 stomach cancer

Retired White Sox closer Bobby Jenks was a two-time All-Star and he closed out the clinching game of the 2005 World Series. His career ended in 2011, when he was just 30 years old, following botched spinal compression surgery which caused major complications and the pain of which contributed to Jenks falling into substance abuse. In 2019 he agreed to a $5.1 million settlement of the malpractice suit he brought against the hospital where he was treated and the doctor which performed the surgery.

Since then we have not heard much about Jenks, but we got a terrible update over the weekend from Scott Merkin of MLB dot com: Jenks has Stage 4 adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer. The cancer has spread to his stomach lining, his bones, his lower back and his hips and there have been complications which have caused internal bleeding and severe digestive problems. He’s currently being treated in a hospital in Portugal, where he lives part of the year to be near his wife’s family.

Oh, and on top of that: his U.S. home, in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, burned down during the fires last month. He says that he lost all of his personal baseball memorabilia, save his World Series ring, in the fire.

Jenks does his best to put a positive spin on it all in the story, but man, these are a series of tough breaks to a man who was not unaccustomed to tough breaks to begin with. My heart goes out to the guy.

    andcounting,

Interestingly, Cora acknowledged that the Red Sox promised Devers that he’d be their long-term third baseman at the time the sides agreed on a 10-year extension in January 2023. That agreement came under a previous front office regime, as then-chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom was fired eight months later. Craig Breslow is now running baseball operations. Cora downplayed the significance of that promise as a result, saying it was under “different leadership. That was under Chaim”

I don’t know who would trade for Devers while feeling handcuffed to having him as their third baseman for a decade. It certainly doesn’t give Boston any leverage should a trade become necessary. I can see him making sense for the Cubs if and only if he learns to play 1B.

    andcounting,

I don’t really know what leverage the player has here…if he doesn’t play he gets benched and that also exposes him to those clauses in the uniform player contract about conduct detrimental to the team, he’d get restricted listed and not get paid then. The guarantee is that he gets paid, not how much or where he plays. So I don’t think he has any legs to stand on here 🤷🏻‍♂️

If the Red Sox eat the bulk of the money I see this trade working but I think they’d prefer to spend their money (however much exists anyway) on extending Tucker if they’re trying to be a serious baseball club

This isn’t to say I’m not on Devers’ side, but leadership did change despite the promise given to him and his own performance suggests the team could do better with a different 3B even if his bat is good.

    Rice Cube,

He has a ton of leverage. Simply not being happy about the team reneging on a promise that persuaded you to sign a TEN YEAR CONTRACT extension can have a pretty huge negative impact on the team.

Boston can feel free to play the “change in management” card, but if they want to turn the guy you just wrapped up for a decade into Anthony “just cashing checks” Rendon, go ahead and roll those dice.

    berselius:
I like it, hopefully he mostly just spells Busch against LHP, and is a good bench bat.

Yeah, I’d much prefer the accomplished veteran bat watching the sun set on his career over the scrappy utility sprite with an 80 slap grade.

I accept your perspective and I think we can agree that the Red Sox fucked this up (dying laughing)

I think he’ll begrudgingly play where they ask but that’s gonna be a tough trade chip to offload.

Cubs/Dodgers Tokyo series —> national broadcast on FOX

Rare time where I’m looking forward to waking up at 4am for two straight days.

Speaking of things I didn’t think I’d say, but I like that Joe Buck is calling the game. Though I’ll probably be listening to Pat and Ron anyway (dying laughing)

    berselius,

It’s pretty awesome. That will be a fun gimmick start to the year. If it goes well, I’ll be psyched for the rest of the regular season. If they get embarrassed, I’ll forget it like it was an exhibition series. (dying laughing)
