OSS: Cy(le) Cobb makes an appearance
Three up:
- Kyle Hendricks extended his streak of excellent pitching, allowing just one run in eight innings, striking out seven. Hendricks led off the top of the ninth with his first walk of the game, which led to the pen finishing the game off. Even more impressively, Hendricks went 3-4 including a two-run double in the second inning that fell just shy of the warning track in dead center. He could easily have gone 4-4, as the lone out was a line drive that happened to be hit straight at the second baseman.
- Albert Almora made an incredible catch on a deep ball to center in the bottom of the fifth, seemingly levitating to catch a ball hit to the deepest part of the park.
- Kris Bryant remains locked in, going 3-5 in this one with a double.
- Not sure why the editor keeps forcing me to add a fourth thing
Three down:
- Rizzo’s back is still bothering him, and he will be out for a few more games. It might not be a bad idea to just put him on the injured list and let him fully rest.
- Another rought game for David Bote, who went 0-4 with three strikeouts.
- The Brewers and Cardinals both won today.
Next up:
Yu Darvish takes on Sonny Gray at 5:40 PM CT. While this last Hendricks start was a Pat Hughes special in terms of game length, this one will probably feature a few bases on balls. Despite walking fewer batters than I might have guessed this year, Gray is not one for long outings.
Comments
Hendricks had just as many hits as he allowed.

Apparently Julianna Zobrist filed for divorce in Cook Co on Monday. Hopefully they will find an amicable way forward.
BVSQuote Reply
Ryno,
That’s a good start. About 6 more innings and he’ll be ready. Who goes down then? The bullpen has been such a revolving doir that I can’t remember who all is up. Maples?
BVSQuote Reply
Damn. That sucks. I’m now going to make a joke.
Hopefully she gets the rights to all of her music in the divorce.
Myles HandleyQuote Reply
Came here for Zobrist’s new playlist.
Would be awesome if he came out to Devil’s Haircut.

Or he could go maudlin and use BJ Thomas’s greatest hit:
So please play for me a sad melody
So sad that it makes everybody cry-why-why-why
A real hurtin’ song about a love that’s gone wrong
Cause I don’t want to cry all alone
Hey, won’t ya play another somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home while I miss my baby, while I miss my baby

BVS,
Maybe I should get a copy to play at our high school when there is an argument between a coach and the umps.

For what it’s worth, he filed separately in Tennessee and cited “inappropriate marital conduct” on her part, so she may have been cheating on him. In any case, it sucks for their whole family.

Important La Stella update: a four-hit day (including a walk and a home run) brings him up to .301/.388/.611.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
He currently has a higher wRC+ than Mike Trout.

Yes.
His similar batters through age 29 include Mark DeRosa and Craig Cownsull.

Incidentally, I hope he got his ass kicked at least once specifically for his batting stance. In my life, it’s the thing that most approached Eric Byrnes’ fall-down-throw’s level of annoying.
RynoQuote Reply
Damn Phillies. Shouldn’t Bryce Harper be hitting 8 run HRs or something?
PerkinsQuote Reply
Ryno,
Oh yeah, I almost forgot about his stance. I think it was more of an animal kingdom posturing routine to make him look like a grown adult human.
