Cubs 4, Mets 2

OSS: Maybe the Cubs can win on Barnhart days after all?

Three up:

  1. Marcus Stroman kept the Mets off balance for most of the night, and probably could have gone the distance given his pitch count. Aside from one mistake to Mets nine-hitter Francisco Alvarez that was deposited over the CF fence, Stro was effective. His line on the day was 8 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K, and he has improved to a 2.95 ERA for the season. He also brings the fun vibes that this team has been missing (even though I guess he was also technically bringing them last year, haha).
  2. The Cubs biggest play of the day by WPA was Dansby Swanson’s one-out RBI double in the third inning, which put the Cubs on the board for the first time. Swanson’s back of the baseball card numbers have only been so-so this year but he’s been doing all of the little things well on top of his stellar defense. his .265/.367/.405 line is good for a 117 wRC+, and he is actually right on pace to match his 6.4 fWAR season last year.
  3. Nico Hoerner added some insurance with a solo shot in the sixth to put the Cubs up 4-2. It was his first home run in almost exactly a month. Nico’s not really a HR-focused guy based on where he’s hitting in the lineup, but it’s still nice to see him go yard every once in a while.

Three down:

  1. Not much to complain about today, aside from maybe the one day early getaway day lineup. At least for AC’s sake, Nick Madrigal did not make an appearance

Next up:

The Cubs go for the Conan at 6:40 on Thursday. Carlos Carrasco faces the season debut of Cyle Hendricks.

The only saving grace to this game is that Pete Alonso is on my fake bball team and he’s outscored my opponent by himself tonight.

    Rice Cube:
Huh, the Mets DFA’d Gary Snachez already

Did you see him play behind the plate the other night? His agility back there is like Wile E Coyote after an altercation with an anvil in a sand pit.

    Rice Cube,

Just looking at sprint speed stats from statcast. There are 10 players slower than Vogelbach in MLB this year. The slowest of all? Tucker Barnhardt. At least MASH is faster than Rizzo.

    Rice Cube,

He threw a 39.1 mph pitch to Mark Canha. Apparently tied for the 4th slowest pitch in statcast history. Slowest 1 Brock Holt, 2. Dee Strange Gordon, 3. Frank the Tank, 4t. Andrelton Simmons while a Cub. 4t. Barnhardt.

Who says Cubs don’t dominate leaderboards?

The last Dreamcast I did with berselius where Nick Madrigal almost ended me has 20 downloads which is pretty solid for something lost in the noise of Cubs podcastdom (dying laughing)
