OSS: Brerrors help put the Cubs back to five up in the loss column.
Three up:
- Murphy homered to lead off the top of the fourth, which got the rest of the Cubs offense going.War Bear also hit a 6000 foot home run for some insurance later in the game.
- They got some help from multiple errors following a Rizzo single, but they got their hits in too. It was some great heads up baserunning from both Javy and Rizzo on that play.
- Q pitched into the seventh inning and turned in a quality start, though it was a little shaky at times. At least the starting staff is firing on some cylinders going into the stretch run.
Three down:
- Baez had a very Baez-y day all around, making some great plays on the bases but striking out three times.
- It looks like Schwarber tweaked his back on his HR, hopefully we will know more soon about how serious it might be.
- The Cardinals won.
Next up: The Cubs head to DC for a four game series with the Nats. Cyle, who is somehow the team leader in strikeouts, takes on Stephen Strasburg at 6:05 PM CT.

Chatwood still leads the league in walks (13 more than the next highest) and he’s only thrown 7.2 innings since he was removed from the rotation after his start on July 26th.

dmick89,
(dying laughing)
That’s some crazy shit.

So, like most pitchers who get such news, he just DHed yesterday, going 4-4 with 2 HRs.

Apparently the Rams offered an “aggressive package” for Mack. That front four would’ve been:
Mack – Donald – Suh – Brockers
#horrifying

I haven’t heard anything more on Schwarber, but he looked like he was in serious discomfort rounding the bases after that homer.

andcounting,
Sounds like he’s day to day.

I remember this Simpson’s sign 2-3 times every year. Then I look at it and laugh for 2-3 minutes.

i don’t know about you guys but i’m already stressing about which jersey to show for #18. it’s basically impossible to choose between tsuyoshi wada, jason kendall, chris rusin, and steve christmas. hopefully we can skip right to #17 where the choice is obvious (felix pie).

EnricoPallazzo,
ah fuck i forgot about #17 bobby hill…
EnricoPallazzoQuote Reply
EnricoPallazzo,
The Brewers and Cardinals don’t play so I’m hoping we get 18 after tonight’s Cubs game.
dmick89Quote Reply
EnricoPallazzo,
Geovany Soto would be a perfectly cromulent choice.

Thought I’d say hi to you jabronis now that I’m pretty much permanently stuck in California now. How about them Cubs eh.

To day’s base ball squadron:
Murphy
Baez (3B)
Rizzo
Zobrist (RF)
Bryant (LF)
Almora
Contreras
Hendricks
Russell

I still have a Geo shirsey that I keep around for outdoor work, since it’s my only light colored Cubs shirsey. It’s also handy when you’re meeting someone at the ballpark since there aren’t likely to be many Geo shirseys in the crowd (dying laughing).
berseliusQuote Reply
Perkins,
A lot of people will complain about Russell’s spot in the lineup, but the real issue is Almora’s getting a start against an RHP. Get well soon, Jason.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
berselius,
I used to have a Joe Borowski jersey that served a similar purpose (being easily noticed). Soto looked like he’d be really good for a couple of years there.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Soto is the must frustrating Cubs catcher since Rick Wilkins.

Why throw Reynolds a strike here? There were two outs. Who cares if you walk him? And Difo is a very weak hitter.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
That would have been a strikeout if the ump hadn’t blown the call on the third pitch.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Almora needs to stop coming up in these situations.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Stop giving up hits to the light-hitting catcher, please.
