OSS: It's the Javy Baez show.
Three Up
1. Javy Baez walked 3 times, scored from 1st on an error, and was generally awesome. He had a rough go of the first series of the year, so it's nice to see him with his first-ever 3 walk game.
2. Jon Lester was really good tonight (Ron Coomer's player of the game), rebounding from his Opening Day start with 6 innings of 1-walk, 3-hit, no run ball. Lester even threw out a steal "attempt" by Bryan Raun in the first innings. Man, I hate that guy.
3. Willson Contreras was on every single ball threw at him tonight. Even his out was a scorcher. It was great to see.
Three Down
1. Anthony Rizzo is probably fine, but he sure has been awful so far this year. Today he was 0-5 with a strikeout.
2. Ian Happ had a single and scored a run, so it wasn't all miserable, but he also went 1-6 with 4 SO so he clearly needs to fix some holes.
3. I just…want…to punch…Ryan Braun. What a smug face.
Comments
Forgot to mention that Jason Heyward crushed a ball for a pinch-hit homer. Awesome to see that.

6 QBs in the first?
TyroneQuote Reply
This could wind up being a really ugly homestand for the Brewers. Their starting pitching is shit, Yelich is hurt, and now Knebel is going on the DL.
EdwinQuote Reply
Tyrone,
What’s your draft board look like? How many QBs do you have in the Top 10? Based on BPA not team need.
MuckerQuote Reply
It is wrong to punch people in their smug faces. Even Nazis and Ryan Braun.
(Implying those two on the same level is totally OK though.)
ceruleanQuote Reply
Mucker,
That’s tricky, since I usually only make a SF board and because I haven’t watched everyone yet. I would say that (in a vacuum) my first round board looks like this:
Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
Baker Mayfield, QB, OU
Sam Darnold, QB, USC
Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
Bradley Chubb, EDGE, NC State
Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame
Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia
Maurice Hurst, DT, Michigan
Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio St.
Harold Landry, EDGE, Boston College
Derwin James, DB, Florida St.
Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn St.
Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
Josh Sweat, EDGE, Florida St.
Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech
DJ Moore, WR, Maryland
Connor Williams, OL, Texas
Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville
Derrius Guice, RB, LSU
Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
Isaiah Wynn, OL, Georgia
Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama
Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa
Factoring positional value (which is why the four QBs are at the top), these are the guys I think are worth a 1. Obviously you can scratch some of those guys off your team’s list…I can’t imagine CHI or SF would spend a 1 on a QB this year.
TyroneQuote Reply
Tyrone,
So you think the 4 QBs are the 4 best players in the draft? I’m talking about BPA in the entire draft. I’d say Nelson or Barkley is the best player in the draft. How are those QBs compared to Luck or Newton when they were coming out? Luck was probably best player in the draft in 12 right? I’m just curious if this draft went BPA at each pick, how would the top 10 look?
MuckerQuote Reply
That’s a really interesting question. CLE has the cap space, so I say yes.
TyroneQuote Reply
Tyrone,
Oh I didn’t see your bottom sentence after your list
MuckerQuote Reply
Mucker,
Nah, that’s just how I’d stack my big board. QB, imo, is the top value of whichever round grade you give them. If you remove positional value, I’d probably stack like this:
Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame
Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia
Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
Bradley Chubb, EDGE, NC State
Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
Baker Mayfield, QB, OU
Vita Vea, DT, Washington
Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech
Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn St.
Derwin James, DB, Florida St.
Derrius Guice, RB, LSU
Sam Darnold, QB, USC
Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio St.
Harold Landry, EDGE, Boston College
Maurice Hurst, DT, Michigan
Josh Sweat, EDGE, Florida St.
Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
DJ Moore, WR, Maryland
Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama
Connor Williams, OL, Texas
Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville
Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
Isaiah Wynn, OL, Georgia
Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa

Tyrone,
Nice. You think Moore is first WR taken? Moore reminds me of Percy Harvin

For me, he’s if Stefon Diggs and Golden Tate had a baby. Not sure if he WILL be the first, but there isn’t one I clearly like better.

I’m pretty sure Ryan Braun is Jewish and that it’s okay to punch Nazis under many circumstances.

His injury looked really bad. I think it will be closer to 10-12 weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Brewers are hopeful he’ll be ready to go after the all-star break.
