Did The Cubs Win?
OSS: Shark gets his first win, and just about everyone helps out.
Three Up
1. Emilio Bonifacio set the table with a 2-4, 3B, BB game. He was also caught stealing by roughly 12 feet.
2. Nasty Nate Schierholtz really needed a good game, and he had one. 2-4 with a jack, just his first of the year. His batting average is now above .200 (.214/.269/.292). He’s still quite a distance from getting stars and stripes, though.
3. Luis Valbuena went 2-5 and was one of the few teammates that didn’t strike out.
Three Down
1. No one? Even Castro had a great defensive day, and he was the only person who didn’t record a hit. I try not to include Rick Renteria in 3U3D because he doesn’t play baseball, but I was a little perturbed that Shark came out for the 8th, gave up a hit, and then was pulled. That didn’t make sense to me and struck me as a dumb half-measure.
A Short Rant
I’m pretty tired of this #KilltheWin shit. The win is a terrible stat, but railing about it constantly isn’t likely to change anyone’s mind at this point. If they didn’t convert to your cause after the 14th time you bring it up, it’s time to just move on. Let’s just stop using it (we haven’t used it at OV in quite some time), and if anyone asks why, then tell them “well it sucks for reasons A, B, and C”. Cool? Cool.
