Cubs 9, Brewers 1

OSS: Chatwood brings his A-game.

Three up:

  1. Tyler Chatwood was on point today, striking out 8 in six innings and allowing just three hits and two walks. He struck out Yelich three times in a row. I guess our pandemic-related cognitive dissonance is going to coincide with Tyler Chatwood starts this year?
  2. The Cubs offense blew up Beers starter Freddy Peralta and erstwhile closer Corey Knebel in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on just one extra base hit. Javy Baez even drew a walk!
  3. There was a little action on the basepaths, but the bullpen kept the Beers off the scoreboard.

Three down:

  1. Ross pinch-hit for his DH later in the game, which was kind of strange. I guess I’ll actually have to learn what the weird rules are surrounding the DH, since it’s something we’ve never had to worry about (dying laughing). The expanded rosters are certainly going to encourage more substitutions, even with the DH.
  2. Kris Bryant picked up his first hit of the season, but it was a rough day otherwise at the plate with 3 K’s.
  3. Looks like we’re going to get a lot more Ryan Dempster in our earballs with Marquee this year, so yuck.

Next up: The Cubs head to Cincy for a four game set. Jon Lester takes on Wade Miley at 5:40 PM CT.

I wonder how long before other teams have outbreaks. It’s still insane to me that they’re trying to have a season, as much as I enjoy having real baseball to watch.

I too enjoyed the event known as “Baseball Weekend,” and hope they do another one like it next year.

The Phillies-Yankees postponement is out of an abundance of caution

hmmm…might be more accurate to say “The Phillies-Yankees postponement is out of the absolute bare minimum of caution”

    Another case of Floridus interruptus.

Thanks Florida — you really know how to kill a good time and spread diseases anyway.

    cerulean,

Eh they were playing in Atlanta prior to Philly, not Florida, so most likely caught it there

Shocking, seeing how that’s another state that’s really distinguished itself in dealing with the pandemic.

    berselius,

This is a good time for SC not to have a baseball team. Our asininity flies under the radar thanks to our neighbors.

Reminds me of Mississippi’s slogan: “At least we’re not Alabama.”

(Not to be confused with Alabama’s slogan: “At least we’re not Mississippi.”)
