OSS: Erds gonna Erds.
Three up:
- Cyle pitched a gem in some of the best hitters conditions you will ever see. Hendricks allowed just two hits and one walk with five strikeouts in seven shutout innings. He didn’t let up as the Cubs turned it into a laugher, saving the bullpen for next week’s games against deGrom and Thor.
- David Bote had another big game, knocking an RBI single in his first PA and hitting one to Waveland in his second to put the Cubs up 5-0.
- War Bear hit a two run homer that probably should have been a three run homer, had the Reds pitcher not balked in a run on the previous pitch. Then again, said balk probably led to the pitcher coughing up that bomb.
Three-ish down:
- It looks like the Brewers and Cardinals are both winning today.
- The Cubs get both deGrom and Thor in a three game series with the Mets starting tomorrow. Hopefully they pull goofy Ragnarok Thor.
Next up: The Cubs start a three game series with the Mets at Wrigley. Syndergaard takes on Lester at 7 tomorrow, followed by Hamels vs deGrom on Tuesday and Alec Mills vs Vargas in a day game to close out the series.

I hope we have this version of Hendo for the rest of the year.

If we meet the Reds in the playoffs, I love our chances.
MylesQuote Reply
Myles,
Depends on who ends up getting home field advantage. The Reds have owned the Cubs at their home park.
dmick89Quote Reply
That was in the before time, when Bote was not yet fully formed.

I like how it’s Lester vs Syndegaard (awesome matchup!), Hamels vs DeGrom (incredible matchup!), Alec Mills vs. Jason Vargas (a matchup!)

Ryno,
That’s all good, but who has elite spin rate and can’t throw a strike? That’s the best prospect.

Ryno,
Felix Hernandez and Colon.

If Chatwood was on a major league roster last weekend, I would have died laughing if his nickname was Elite Spin Rate

dmick89,
My only two criteria (me giving a shit about you and you performing well) eliminates 99.5% of them on a good day, but we can come up with a new category if you want. Maybe we recognize your criteria and award The Chattys weekly.

My end caps switch up from all you Colonics:
Griffey, Jr. and Vizquel.
BVSQuote Reply
BVS,
I was thinking that there must be a minimum games played criteria or something for this, to eliminate the Lance Dickson’s of the world and make this more fun. But at least in my case, Griffey Jr is the right answer. I guess you have to be really good to debut really young, and to hold on forever.
Coincidentally, both Vizquel and Griffey debuted on the same day.
I guess SK will grace us with a Moyer or a Franco endcap.

Lester has nothing tonight.

This was the second time in a week that the Cubs scored only a run on four hits in an inning IIRC.

Bryant is 0-2, but seems to be hitting the ball hard (he flied out to the opposite-field warning track and hit a line drive that went for a two-base error.)

Chatwood should be demoted until he walks fewer than 6 per 9.

Lester got an rbi hit off Thor and picked a runner off first. Bote made an error. Dogs———> living with cats.

Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Does Tyler Chatwood make the Orioles a better team assuming they use him as a starter? I have no idea. I haven’t looked at their rotation, but I figure he’d have to, but it’s ridiculous I’m even wondering whether or not he’d improve what’s maybe the worst team I’ve ever seen.
dmick89Quote Reply
dmick89,

(dying laughing) @ Len talking about spoilers. I hate people who complain about spoilers for something that happened a long time ago. I get it for recent stuff, but you’re on your own at some point. It’s not my fault if I spoil how The Sopranos ended. It’s your fault for expecting me to act like it happened last night.
