I agree with most of the article except for the injuries angle…just seems that injuries will happen whether they’re on the mound or running around, and is a function of bad luck and poor preparation. Although I feel copious amounts of pain after a recreational softball game so I’m not one to talk (dying laughing)
Happy Memorial Day.

Cubs pitchers re a cool .168 /.186 /.326.

@ Rizzo the Rat:
It looks like what they did is take the average between NL hitters and AL hitters without taking the number of plate appearances into consideration. Which is stupid, and therefore completely discredits the article.

Still not as good as Brendan Ryan. Sad, ain’t it?

We’re getting 170 points of OPS more production from P than other teams. Why get rid of that competitive advantage?

I admit, my opinion of the pitcher hitting rule rises and falls with the fortunes of Cubs pitchers at the plate. This year, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to switch over to the DH rule. Watching pitchers hit is fun!

Well, when you put it that way, I’ll take pitchers hitting and apple pie 😉

I also like the part where the author goes all Dr. Evil:
Five million dollars…
In truth, Bochy was probably a little relieved that Vogelsong hit the DL; it saves him a confrontation. He had been saying for weeks that they might have to make a move.
GWQuote Reply
@ GW:
Vogelsong’s likely replacement is Chad Gaudin. In other news, somehow Chad Gaudin is still in baseball. This might be even more improbable than Vogelsong’s Transformation last year (dying laughing).
BerseliusQuote Reply
@ Berselius:
Crazy. (although it may end up being mike kickham, who is probably not much better). Remember when we thought Gaudin was a sneaky good Hendry acquisition when he came over in the Harden trade?
Also, Josh Donaldson, who went to the A’s in that deal, is absolutely raking this year.
GWQuote Reply
That was also the deal that prompted the Billy Beane disciples to jump on the Sean Gallagher bandwagon: “He’s probably better than Rich Harden already.”

Is that why his name was so familiar when I saw it popping up? I didn’t realize he was from the Cubs.

Yeah, he was a second rounder (or maybe a supplemental pick). He was thought of as a really athletic catcher. I saw him play in Boise and he looked great behind the plate, but his swing seemed a little funky to me.
