Huh, no Braun today either.

berselius,
Is he a bad matchup against Darvish or something?

That’s why you always take a RB at pick 2 or 288.

So that’s why you drafted that OT last night…
TyroneQuote Reply
Tyrone,
Trent Brown and a 5 for NE’s 3. I like it. I bet they try to use on or two of their 3rds to move up in the second for a pass rusher.
By “bet,” I mean “hope.”

If I were to do a Day 2 mock draft, I’d take Harold Landry, Josh Sweat and Kemoko Turay for CHI, GB and SF in the second round. Get your EDGEs now.

Maddon sez Bryant should be back in the lineup tomorrow.
berseliusQuote Reply
Tyrone,
I don’t know who I like more. Landry or Sweat. You think Landry is better prospect than Shane Ray was coming out?
MuckerQuote Reply
I have a feeling Heyward won’t win a Gold Glove this year.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
Given the inertia in the gold glove voting process, he could lose a leg in the offseason and still be 50-50 to win one the next year.
berseliusQuote Reply
Ugh.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
At least Darvish is striking people out.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Mucker,
Landry is the better bender while Sweat is the more complete EDGE. I feel like Sweat has a higher floor and ceiling than Landry while Landry is more likely to make an impact in the NFL if that makes sense.

Nice, Almora.

Tyrone,
Yeah makes sense. Who is better fit in Fangio scheme?
MuckerQuote Reply
Mucker,
Sweat definitely. He fits the type to a T. Turay’s the other EDGE I could see them liking.
TyroneQuote Reply
Tyrone,
I’m hoping Bears can trade down, get that 3rd back and get Sweat. Fingers crossed
You like the McGlinchey pick?
MuckerQuote Reply
Also, good fucking call on Ward in Top 5.
MuckerQuote Reply
Darvish is looking pretty good today.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Mucker,
There are apparent issues with all the EDGEs left, so I’d say you could definitely move back and have a good shot at one. That position, though, is like QB for me. If you like one, get him while you can.
I like it more now that Brown is traded. Their OL depth was going to get pretty thin. Probably need to devote at least one more pick to it.
TyroneQuote Reply
Mucker,
Thanks. That one made quite a bit of sense to me. A lot of other ones in the first didn’t, though, so I’m not sure what that says about me. IoI
TyroneQuote Reply
Tyrone,
At T? Or G?
What about the Steelers? WTF were they doing? And Seahawks? They can pay me a fraction of what they are paying their GMs to make those picks.
MuckerQuote Reply
Mucker,
Both. Definite need at T after the Brown trade today, but at least one G spot needs an upgrade (enjoy editing that one).
I don’t know about PIT, man. Several better Ss on the board. At least SEA makes a little sense (Penny’s different from the other runners available), but they would’ve been better off trying to move back and accumulate picks (I don’t think they have any picks today).
TyroneQuote Reply
Perkins,
It’s not the fifth inning yet…
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
The offense seems to have gone to sleep after a promising first inning.

berseliusQuote Reply
Tyrone,
Didn’t they move down and then move back up? Or was that someone else?
MuckerQuote Reply
The Packers did, but not sure if that was who you are thinking of.
berseliusQuote Reply
berselius,
Yeah it might have been. I really like what the Packers did. Got an extra 1st next year for a guy they probably would’ve took at their original spot.

All that salt is going to go well with popcorn.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Perkins,
I’m not looking forward to a division so close that’s even a possible excuse for losing the division. If the Cubs win the division by as much as they should, I don’t think too many people will be saying that it’s the one run losses that cost them the division.

Senior Rockies Correspondent BerseliusQuote Reply
Harper by a fair bit.
mylesQuote Reply
As far as the young players go, it’s something like Trout/Bryant/Harper/Betts/Altuve/Machado for me.
mylesQuote Reply
Harper had one of the greatest seasons in history, but he does not play a premium position and isn’t a premium defender at his position. Machado is three months older and a far more dynamic player. If Russell’s bat remains nonexistent, I think I want Machado.
ceruleanQuote Reply
cerulean,
Harper by a long way, but I don’t think the Cubs are going to go after either player. If you’re going to give out an 8 year contract or longer, Harper is definitely the better bet to be valuable down the road. The guy is walking in almost 30% of his plate appearances this season. His BABIP is only .200. Both will regress back to where we’d expect, but the fact he can even walk in close to 30% of his PA in a month of the season is crazy.
dmick89Quote Reply
If Russell and Schwarber both end up being roughly 2-3 WAR players, the Cubs can probably improve in wiser ways than going after guys like Harper and Machado.
