The Smokies scored 8 in the first inning won 9-1. John Andreoli was 3-6. Dustin Geiger and Wes Darvill were each 2-5. Geiger had a double and a strikeout while Darvill had 2 doubles. Rubi Silva was 1-4 with a walk and 3 strikeouts, but his hit was a home run. Kris Bryant was 1-5 with 2 strikeouts. Rafael Lopez was 1-2 with 3 walks and Jeudy Valdez also got in on the fun going 1-5.
Corey Black was fantastic. He threw 6 hitless inning, walked 3 and struck out 8. P.J. Francescon pitched the final 3 and gave up 2 hits and 2 walks, a run and struck out 2.
Gioskar Amaya was 3-5 with a double and strikeout. Amaya is batting .500/.536/.542 in 8 games. He’s only had 24 at-bats. Things aren’t going too splendidly for Albert Almora though. He’s hitting .271/.288/.386 in 73 plate appearances. That’s after his 1-5 last night. He does have a 96 wRC+ thanks to nobody hitting worth a shit in the Florida State League. Things are far less splendidly for Dan Vogelbach who was 1-4 last night. He’s hitting .154/.247/.215 and even the crappy run environment of the FSL can’t save him. His wRC+ is 44. It’s just 73 plate appearances so I’d caution anyone to get too concerned.
Marco Hernandez was 2-4. Pin-Chieh Chen and Bijan Radenmacher each singled.
Rob Zastryzny threw 4.2 innings, allowed 7 hits and 4 runs. He walked 1 and struck out 5. Michael Jensen threw 2.1 innings, allowed a home run and struck out 3. Zach Cates allowed 2 hits and a run in his inning of work.
This team can hit. This team can walk. This team score. This team can win. Can we have this team in Chicago? Seriously, I’d even take this team. The Kane County Cougars.
Daniel Canela was 2-5 and Jordan Hainkins was 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI. However, the big performance goes to Will Remillard who was 4-4 with a double, 3 RBI and a walk. Carlos Penalver doubled and Yasiel Balaguert singled. Shawon Dunston, Jr. was 2-4 with a home run.
Tyler Skulina threw 4.1 innings, allowed 6 hits and 3 runs. He walked 4 and struck out only 2. Justin Amlung picked up the very important W with 3.2 innings of decent work. He allowed 4 hits and no runs, walked 1 and struck out 2. Gerardo Concepcion allowed 3 hits and a run while striking out 2 in the 9th.
