Bryant still runs aggressively with his bruises.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Bryant is such a good base runner. Even when he’s injured.

I didn’t know there was a Baseball Reference page for “Douchebag”. (dying laughing)

This looks familiar.

Good Arrieta so far.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Arrieta throwing strikes is not. This game could suddenly go either way.
dmick89Quote Reply
dmick89,
Yeah,I was referring to the Cubs leaving men on base.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
These guys have more HBP than runs over the past few games.

dmick89,
They’re not doing anything right.
uncle daveQuote Reply
Ugh. Third straight start in which Jake gave up a homer.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Cubs lose.
dmick89Quote Reply
Wow. Shit-ass little cue shot and we’re down again.
uncle daveQuote Reply
It would be nice if the Cubs won at least occasionally. For old times’ sake.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
They’re gonna score two runs on two hits. We’re gonna be 0-15 with runners on. Fuck this noise.
uncle daveQuote Reply
Jesus.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Sorry, three runs on three hits.
uncle daveQuote Reply
The Cubs are going to get swept. They suck ass right now.
dmick89Quote Reply
dmick89,
I always love your optimism.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
dmick89,
I mean, it’s bullshit. If they were even hitting at league average with runners on, we’d be looking at a .500 stretch right now and not even having this conversation. It’s hot fucking garbage.
uncle daveQuote Reply
uncle dave,
Probably still under .500 considering how pooriy they’ve pitched (that’s been the primary problem IMO), but yeah, they’d be a lot better and we’d not be complaining too much.
dmick89Quote Reply
It’s weird to see so many pitchers struggling at once.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
If I were facing the Cubs I’d just put the first two men on every inning.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
dmick89,
I don’t know where the home run problem has come from. Maybe time to change the approach or something? I dunno.
uncle daveQuote Reply
Gameday is saying more than a few of these balls Jake has thrown are actually strikes. Is it broken or is the umpire a fucking idiot?
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
Smokestack Lightning,
PitchTrax agrees.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Jake is getting hit hard tonight.
dmick89Quote Reply
Baseballs have been flying out of ballparks all year. The MLB should have all the balls recalled.

He clearly isn’t right. Hope he can fix his shit during the break or this team prolly isn’t doing much even if it does make the postseason.

You got your wish. I myself am hoping for another Heyward weakass groundball.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
Damn it, I thought that was gone.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Seeing Heyward connect in that way is so rare these days. That looked gone off the bat.
dmick89Quote Reply
A loss here and the Cubs will be a game under .500 since their 25-6 start. That’s just depressing.
dmick89Quote Reply
More runs, please.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Come on, Rizzo.

Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
Smokestack Lightning,
They should also just be preemptive and place the rest of the roster on the DL.

Could be worse, kids. We could be Mets fans watching all their incredibly talented young pitching go to pieces at the same time.

Home runs are stupid. Honus Wagner didn’t hit very many. And he’s in the Hall of Fame.

Cardinals lose.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Hey guys. Didn’t have time to tune in to the game tonight or read all the comments. I assume that arrieta finally turned things around and was able to locate his pitches while the cubs offense simultaneously figured out how to not strand 8000 guys in scoring position. Pretty sure it was like a 9-0 cubs win. Unless anyone tells me otherwise in the next four seconds, I will assume this is all correct.
EnricoPallazzoQuote Reply
OK great!everything is good again.

I just checked the box score. You fuckers lied to me by not giving me the update in that four second window. All is lost. On the plus side, the pottery barn is running some amazing sales right now. Edwin,
July 15th through July 17th is Evolution Championship Series 2016 in Vegas. It’s the world’s largest fighting game tournament, attracting players from all over the world. Street Fighter V is the headline game, and the top 8 will be shown on ESPN 2 this year. It’s not Cubs baseball, so it’s not completely terrible.
EdwinQuote Reply
I looking forward to the All-Star break. I need a few days without games that matter in the standings.

Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
I’m surprised the Cubs or even MLB is letting Dexter Fowler play in the game. There should be some rule that if you aren’t on the active roster on the final day before the break, you’re ineligible to play in the game. The Cubs, all things considered at this point, have no interest whatsoever in allowing Fowler to play in that game. He’s going to be important as the Cubs try to lock down one of the two wild card spots available.
dmick89Quote Reply
I picked an opportune time not to be reading every word. This 5–14 shit has been awful. For a team that was 47–20, finishing 53–23 for 105 wins seems way out of reach, even though that’s about what they did in the second half last year.
There is always next year.
ceruleanQuote Reply
dmick89,
Is it really much different than the rehab starts he’s doing? He won’t even play a full game. Maybe they could put him in a DH spot, too (is that allowed?).
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
It would be allowed if they weren’t playing in an NL park, I would assume.
SKQuote Reply
SK,
No, the All-Star Game always has a DH since 2010. Also, this year the AL is technically the home team, despite the venue. My only question is whether Dex can play a position other than the one he was voted in for.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Big, if true.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
(dying laughing) I can answer that RtR. Yes. Unless they’ve changed the rule since 1984.
SKQuote Reply
Right now .500 the rest of the way seems a tall enough order.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
At least Fowler won’t get hurt again in the ASG. The rest of the Cubs all stars will all probably collide with one another on their way to the dugout and will miss the rest of the season.
dmick89Quote Reply
The NL team should have Bryant start in the outfield and Arenado at third.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
Why is the AL the home team?
EnricoPallazzoQuote Reply
EnricoPallazzo,
It’s just their turn, I think. They’re playing in NL parks three straight years for some reason.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
The AL is also scheduled to be the home team in 2018, when they play in Nationals Park. The MLB just doesn’t seem to care about agreement between the home team and venue anymore.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
Does it really matter? They could play the all star game in a parking lot for all I care. As much as I’d like the NL to win this year, the only thing I really care about is that the Cubs players don’t get hurt. I’m kind of hoping they all come down with a 24 hour flu that prevents them from even leaving their hotel rooms. We’re not going to win the wild card if these guys get injured.
dmick89Quote Reply
cerulean,
I applaud your optimism, but I think beating last year’s 97 is going to be very difficult at this point. Prior to spring training I was thinking 95 wins, but I became more optimistic and went with 97 at the start of the season. I think 95 is looking pretty good right now.
dmick89Quote Reply
How disappointing will a 95-win season be at this point? That’s just ridiculous, but here we are.
dmick89Quote Reply
Now that this season is in the dumpster, what kind of haul would Bryant fetch? I’m thinking the starting pitching staff of another team? Or would it be unreasonable to ask for the bullpen too?
