I don’t really get La Stella leading off, but whatever.

Cubs lose.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
That was probably strike 3.

dmick89,

8 or 10 more runs, please.

Kind of weird hearing Len on a neutral network. I keep wondering why he’s telling me things I know already.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Len: Willson Contreras, the rookie catcher…
Me: I know who he is.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
anyone know why the cubs audio feed isn’t showing up on mlb.com? i can only get the pirates feed and the option where you can switch between feeds is not appearing tonight.
EnricoPallazzoQuote Reply
Strikes, please.

EnricoPallazzo,
Does it have anything to do with the FOX broadcast?

Something is wrong with Lester.

Outs. Please.

Lester can’t throw to the bases and now he can’t throw home.

Crap. Stop sucking, Jon.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Kyle Hendricks might be the guy the Cubs schedule in that wild card game if this keeps up.
dmick89Quote Reply
Rodriguez? Really?
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Lester is broken
dmick89Quote Reply
No Cub should attend the ASG at this point. Take the whole week off.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
What’s kind of hilarious is that just about every person on this team has great season stats, and yet they’re clearly the worst team in baseball right now.
It’s like the whole team is Bryan LaHair.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
Smokestack Lightning,
I’m OK with that.
dmick89Quote Reply
The NL would be better off with them not on the team at this point. On the off chance for Cubs do win that 2nd wild card, it would be nice if the NL won next week’s game.
dmick89Quote Reply
These balls are crazy juiced.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
It also helps Juan Nicasio is crazy bad at sports.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
It’s nice to see Rizzo, Bryant, Zobes keep fighting, but it seems rather a waste of time at this point.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
Eh, blow it up. Theo is a forward-thinking prez. This isn’t going to get better. Sell now and we can get some cool shit for the future.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
He brings in a righty to face Heyward? Weird.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Warren isn’t looking any better than Lester.

I hate this game.

dmick89Quote Reply
Of course.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
The Cubs bullpen sucks ass.
dmick89Quote Reply
Seriously, though, are these balls wound tighter than usual?
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
This game is dildos.
PerkinsQuote Reply
May as well peave Warren in to get shelled at this point. Fuck him.
PerkinsQuote Reply
C. J. Nitkowski is annoying.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Until this team shows serious signs of turning this around, no need to trade for anything. Rich Hill ain’t fixing this shit. Neither is Chapman.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
Smokestack Lightning,
I still think LF is the biggest need.
dmick89Quote Reply
Playing 31 games in a row with injuries to Fowler, Soler, and LaStella can’t have helped. I’m concerned about Arrieta (and Lester to a lesser extent), but getting a few days off will probably help.
PerkinsQuote Reply
Rizzo didn’t hit for the cycle, but it was almost worth it to see Marte misjudge it and jump for it.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Perkins,
Yeah, I’m not too worried. It’s frustrating, but they’re a good team and they’ll win games. I think we all got a little carried away with how good the team might be. They’re good. They’re not great.
dmick89Quote Reply
I know, I know. The brain says there’s no way a team this talented can continue to play this poorly the rest of the way, and the the ship will be righted soon enough, but man, this is as tough a stretch as I can remember for a team this good, and it’s the sort of stretch that makes you think you were imagining all the good stuff.
Theo has to be having 2011 flashbacks right now.
Smokestack LightningQuote Reply
It’s definitely a frustrating stretch, but even if the Cubs lose tomorrow, they still have a bigger lead than gm’s infamous “five back rule.” I think with better health, they might have been a 110 win team, but I’ll settle for a division win and a deep playoff run at this point.
I’m also remembering Theo’s early season comments about a stretch where it felt like they’d never win another game. I’m wondering if he’s a time lord or something. (dying laughing).
The only things that have me legitimately worried right now are Arrieta’s command issues and Lackey’s descent into mediocrity. It’d be nice to see them sort those out.
PerkinsQuote Reply
This giant string of injuries is giving me 2009 flashbacks

Still amazes me that the 2009 Cubs were in first place at one point in August. This team might still be in first place come August so there’s another similarity between these two teams. (dying laughing)
dmick89Quote Reply
2009 was the year Ramirez separated his shoulder, right?

We made it to a few games this year, but things have been hectic lately. The nuke plant I was working at is shutting down so we decided to pack our bags and move to Florida to be closer to our parents. Just got down here last week.

Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Is there something in the atmosphere here that is causing the balls to rocket off bats like this? This is crazy.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
only way the Cubs win this game is if they somehow bat last.
dmick89Quote Reply
I know I’ve been complaining about this a lot, but I’m really sick of these home run derbies.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
I like home runs. I’d like to see more of them.
dmick89Quote Reply
They walked Baez. We must make them pay for this.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Almora!

I was just getting ready to say that I was looking forward to Almora returning to Iowa, which would mean a healthy Fowler. (dying laughing)
dmick89Quote Reply
Even Lackey is hitting the ball hard.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
dmick89,
I was thinking the same thing.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
I know RISP hitting is mostly chance, but this team is really sucking with RISP.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
How did Mercer manage to make that play close? That was impressive.
dmick89Quote Reply
Baez can be really fucking stupid at times. That’s at least the 2nd time he’s blown through the hold call and been out by 30 fucking feet or more.
dmick89Quote Reply
I understand Javy’s decision to run there, but damn.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
dmick89,
Little League shit
SKQuote Reply
I don’t think the Cubs had anyone in the bullpen, and Lackey was on deck, so there was little chance of getting any runs there, anyway.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Bean ball war has begun
umbraQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
At least Lackey wouldn’t be leading off the next inning. He had no chance of scoring. None.
dmick89Quote Reply
I’m hearing that Jones initially sent Baez, but changed his mind after he had committed. So I don’t blame Javy.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Another potentially costly throwing error. It’s like watching reruns.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
The only Cubs catcher who should be allowed to throw to any base at any time during a game is Ross. They suck at it. (dying laughing)
dmick89Quote Reply
I could listen to this or go outside and catch some Pokemon.
umbraQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
Jones was sending him and then put up the stop sign. Baez ran through it. Jones deserves some blame for not recognizing early on that Baez would have no chance of scoring, but Baez does stupid shit at times. He does some things very, very well too.
dmick89Quote Reply
8 straight hits for Rizzo.
dmick89Quote Reply
Once again, it feels as though we should have 10 runs.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
More sucking with RISP.
dmick89Quote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
Yeah, yesterday it was tied 5-5 and the Cubs had 10 hits while the Pirates had 5. Basically same thing today.
dmick89Quote Reply
dmick89,
Ok. It seemed like it could be hard to track down off the bat, but when it was fielded quickly Jones should have known better. He was looking at the play, not Javy.
SKQuote Reply
Maddon should bench Rizzo the rest of the year so he can finish the season with a .300 average.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Rizzo the Rat,
(dying laughing)
SKQuote Reply
SK,
It happened rather quickly. It looked like it could go down into the corner, but once it was clear that wasn’t going to happen, I thought for sure the stop sign would be up. It wasn’t initially, which I think is crazy, but Javy saw the stop sign (at least I think he did) and he also saw where the ball was at. Let’s just say they both fucked up.
Good base running there by Russell. Baez would have tried for 2 for sure.
dmick89Quote Reply
Welp.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
I’m not sure why a Cubs runner is trying to get into scoring position. They’re better off hugging first base and waiting for a homer.
Rizzo the RatQuote Reply
Lackey is still pitching?
dmick89Quote Reply
I spoke too soon.
dmick89Quote Reply
dmick89,
